My garage has been a complete disaster for the last year. Mostly because of my old 4g Summit coupe that I finally finished tearing appart. After having the shell hauled away I wanted to start doing my long list of car stuff. But I decided it was time to do more work on the garage itself first.

My house was built 7 years ago and I did alot of the work myself, which basically means that there is still alot to do. I insulated about 80% and stopped, put up some wall board and stopped, did a little drywall and stopped (you get the idea). So I did a little more then stopped so I could build some storage solutions.

I now currently have 3 vehicles, each has a summer set of rims and tires and a winter set of rims and tires. I also have an all-season set of 5 rims and tires that I use in between season on my Summit. Add in an older set of stock steelies and tires and I get a total of 33 rims and tires minus the 12 that are on cars leaves me with 21 left to store (or get rid of :( ). So I built this rack which sits on the back wall of my garage. I have a 10 ft. ceiling so it well out of my way. It's 10ft. long and built with 2x4's and fence posts and alot of screws. It is very strong and I figure if I roll the tires a 1/4 turn every few weeks I shouldn't have to worry about flat spots.

I also started my overhead shelves that when complete will fill both walls.

Here is my workbench area which still needs alot of 'work' (pic looks funny because I cropped 2 pic together for a panoramic kind of view.

nice work. do you plan on building more racks for the rest of the tires? you would have a tid bit more space if you adopted my rule for the garage. it's not a storage shed!! nothing but car stuff, tools, and lawn care stuff is to be in the garage! of course, i might feel that way b/c growing up i had a huge garage but i always had to move this and that or roll something outside just to work on a car in it. rant over...

I plan on building a shed next summer, but I also know that most places like home depot drop the prices on their sheds and kits come the fall so if I find a good deal I will have to jump on it. As far as other wheel storage goes I think I will just sell one set set and then I will only have a few tires left to deal with, they could probably just go on the shelf.

I had a ladder style tire rack that stored four flat along the ceiling in my last house. It pivoted at the garage door opener header so I could load it in the "ramp" mode, then I had a pulley system that sucked it tight to the ceiling. Can't store 12 like yours, but it did the trick! Wish I had pics of that one...

I wish I could see the floor in my current garage.

Great post!

I still have a lot of stuff to do and put away. Here is the other wall that has most of the remaining stuff. I have spare parts for my Eagle Summit including a motor that needs to go in it, but that will have to wait until the winter. I hope to have all the insulation done by then. I only have the garage door wall and a little ceiling insulaion to go, but before I can seal up the ceiling I have to build an access door so I can get to the insulation area for the house.
