: HELP- Stanza WP pulley Interference !!

After installing new water pump on my 91 NX2000, I have decided to go with Stanza water pump pulley - there is an interference problem between the pulley and the oil pump casting - the pictures below illustrates it.

My question is can this part be machined with dremel tool to add clearance and if so, what is the wall thickness of the part shown ( I would need another 3mm of clearance for the pulley to fit).

Any other solutions would be welcomed.

I used my grinder to remove 1 full tooth from the inside edge of the pulley, as well as I removed about 1-2mm of material (using a file) from the oil housing to create additional clearance. Now after pulley installation I have about 1/16" space between the oil housing the the pulley.

Here is Stock vs Stanza pulley

Can't wait to see how she takes high rpm journeys...

Wow! Let us know how that turns out.. I personally would be kind of afraid to run a pulley modified to that extent. Keep an ear out for any noise.. you don't want that belt to pop off and get wrapped around the crank pulley!

less prone to cavitation at high rpms..its like having the unorthodox pulley

I had the same concern Mike, but since the p/s pump pulley is only 1/2" away from Stanza one, it should provide enough "guide" for the belt, we'll see what happens, I think someone on the board is running the same modified pulleys on race prepped NX2000, with the difference that they had to file off 1 1/2 teeth from it, I just removed 1 tooth plus filed down the oil cover casting to provide additional clearance.

If you have a VE there should not be any clearance issue.

i am running a pulley that is ground down just like the pictures...it is close enough to the oil pump housing that it almost acts in the same way as the raised outer lip on the pulley...no way for it to slip off.....works wonders at high rpm....running 6000-7500rpm in second gear for the full duration of my races (race only car-not for street) and the motor is cool as a cucumber.

Wow, odd... I didn't think you had to mod anything! It fit on my VE with no problems...

I guess it's different somehow.

I'll take a look tonight...

Hey,

What belt size did you use with your Stanza pulley, I have purchased 36" long belt as per some people who installed it on their VE's but it is too long for my DE. Stock size is 34" I think, so are you using 35" long one?

Thanks.

I'm using a 34.7" belt, though 34.5 would be better I think. I'm ALMOST at the limit of adjustment. On a VE BTW using the stock VE PS pulley and underdrive crank pulley (though the PS/WP pulley on it is NOT underdrive).

Also, I checked... I have no clearance issues to the oil pump bump. Must be a DE thing.

don't remember....had lordco (parts shop) send next three sizes up from stock and one fit perfect
