Will a 95 1.6 speed sensor work for a 2.0 tranny??

I would bet that it doesn't. IIRC the 1.6 sensor gear is either offset or centered from the top of the sensor and the SR sensor is the opposite of what ever the 1.6 is.

when i had a spare 1.6 trans sitting next to my 2.0 trans i wondered the same thing. the only reason i did not try it is i was afraid the reading would be off.

Yes, just install it and get someone to ride next to you and tell you what their car reads compared to yours. This way you will know how far it's off.
