I bought the underdrive pulley set (crank/wp) used, and was reading over the installation instructions when I came by this:

"The new crankshaft pulley is equipped with a steel sleeve that the engine oil seal rides. Check to make sure that the sleeve is on the pulley
otherwise do not install as a major oil leak or serious engine damage could occur."

I'm not exactly sure what they mean by this "metal sleeve", all I received were the 2 pulleys. Is it a part separate of the pulleys, or is it already embedded into the pulley? Do they mean that cut out groove on the inside of the crank pulley where the shaft goes (visible in the pic below)?

the steel sleeve is pressed on to the end of the crank pulley that slides into the front cover and touches the front main seal. if you look at the back of the pulley you will see the aluminum pulley and the thin steel sleeve pressed on it. the sleeve is only like 40 thousnads thick. i have the same pulley for my rwd sr20det and it has it so i would worry about it. its a straightforward swap.

does it have the timing marks on it?

Ah ok so it's part of the pulley already. As long as I'm not missing anything, then it's all good.

If you cannot make the steel out. Wave a magnet over it for a second to check that it is there. That is what I believe I did...

Well it's all part of the pulley right? It just looks all aluminum, as it the pic above.

It's the part that the seal rides on. Behind the face that's in the pic now. It'll be a darker shiny metal, stilll polished smooth ***...
