LEDS lights are the way of the future. They don't turn your workspace into day like a larger shop floodlight, but they still rock.

I have a basic headband light that runs a 10-LED cluster off 3AAA batteries. I never really wore it, but it has been used and abused. It's small and can be rested in hard-to-reach places.

I turned it on yesterday evening and forgot I had left it in the engine bay. I came back tonight to continue working on the car, and found it still kicking over 24 hours later. Cool.

LEDs are the future, Jim, you're correct. I'm looking to convert every single light I have into LED, over time.

www.superbrightleds.com is heaven. ;)

yup - someone needs to make a conversion kit for our brakelights. Is there any substitute for a large fluorescent shop light?

Psst!

it's important now to make sure you get bright ones, *** some cheap ass chinese led are bright enough when you look at it, but not under the hood.

the problem is not LEDs its the color. people buy the blue LED drop lights and flash lights all the time thinking they are bright.........nope. they hurt your eyes and are very dim. you need the whitest one possible.

i use a single LED flash light most of the time and its a 6watt LED...........ITS MOTHER FUCKIN BRIGHT.

everyone should go to target right now and buy at least a 3watt to keep in your car. the battries last about 2 days if you leave the light on 24/7

also, i suggest getting a cordless LED drop light (craftsmen has them) they last plenty long and you dont need to mess around with cords

Im a big fan of LED's in most situations. Directed light they work well. In something like a flood or whole room lighting they dont do too well IMHO. what sucks is there isnt any good replacement for bad lights either. Compact florescence is ok, but they arent exactly "green" with the mercury in them. same with regular florescence. they are good for power but thats it...

maybe one day we will have good options for replacement of all incandescence lights
