Seeking up to date recommendations for best place to buy rotors for a stock, daily driven 1991 SE-R. Although I would eventually like to do the NX front brake upgrade, at this point I am only interested in the best price on stock, non ABS, rotors (I assume 250 x 18mm for the front, 234 x 7mm rear). Also: Seeking advice on whether to get Bobcat pads all around, or front only....would Bobcats all around be overkill for a street car, or throw off the front/rear bias, etc? Advice, recommndations, and verbal abuse welcomed. :D

eeyr - oo -- eccch -- urgh -- oh heck -- SEARCH. There, I know we weren't supposed to say that, I tried not to :-). You're gonna get enough opinions to choke a horse. If you're going on the cheap, the b'cats cost would give you heart failure. The only reason we got any decent support from that place was because Matt was there, and they canned him a few months back. Thankfully, he's at a competitor's, but they don't make pads for us. I'm still running the 'cats and will wear 'em out, don't have a clue what to replace them with. They are wonderful street pads with the nx2k conversion. BUT if you're just commuting etc., I suggest you get some Brembo blanks at the friendly local neighborhood advance auto (or wherever) - as inexpensive as anything else; and I'd be kinda tempted to dial up Greg Vogel at G Spec (check the vendor section) and see what he'd charge for a set of factory pads. If that's out of your budget range, just pick up whatever at one of the stores and carry a drag chute.

Price is not the issue with the pads...I am pretty sure I want to upgrade on the pads. I understand the Bobcats are about $120 for the front set...I am prepared to spend that, if I am convinced they are worth it. I should say that I drive my DD very hard...spirited I think is the politically correct term...I did search and search, I swear! At this point I just am not convinced I even need the nx2k upgrade for my commuter car and don't want to toss out a practically new set of tires (I have the B14 wheels waiting in the wings for these tires to wear out - but the brakes will not wait). I don't want to go with cheap pads....I need an upgrade.

Got it. Next best thing seems to be Axxis Ultimates - they dust like crazy, but folks seem to be okay with them for function. I can't personally vouch for them as I'm running the cats. Because of what Carbotech did to Matt, many of us have elected to take our business elsewhere. Do suggest you contact GregV at G Spec and Serban at GoFast to see what they keep, and see what they recommend. both know these cars VERY well and will steer you straight.
I agree for a DD - good pads on the stock units should do you fine given you don't want to ante up for big wheels at this point. Mind you, when you make the jump, you're going to be amazed at the difference - but I'll continue to argue that changing to the factory nx2k mc (only way to get the correct bias valves) from Greg put necessary bias to the rear and REALLY changed the car, this with bobcats on all four corners. (I believe I'm the only one to have done this)
