: ATTENTION...9000 rpm has been reached
Bull GTi 07-09-2007, 05:30 PM OK, today I installed the new GTiR ECU from JWT with no rev limiter.
For fun (since the engine is coming apart soon for the JE pistons), I decided to go for broke and set the rev limit at 9000 rpm with the MSD ignition.
After giving it a few blips in the garage, I went out for a spin and all was well, even at a constant 8500-9000 rpm under load.
However, what I did notice was that there was some smoke coming from the exhaust when above 8200 rpm, but I suspect that this was due to the map not being set above this level.
Will get a video up soon of the car back on the dyno, as I am changing the management to an Apexi Power FC Pro.
Oh, and also fitting a new 3.5" side exit system.
Will keep you posted.
Cheers
Dave
Rob_96 07-09-2007, 05:37 PM wow 9000 on a turbo, how long u think that will last before..... Boom
cheers

Bull GTi 07-09-2007, 05:42 PM What's good is that the valvetrain took it and also took a few hits off the rev limiter!
SR20 Soon? 07-09-2007, 05:52 PM Im impressed.....if i take my bone stock de above 4krpms right now i fear itll go boom..
Joke of the day:
"knock knock....
Who is there?
rod #3"
:(
HkSBlueBird4u 07-09-2007, 05:57 PM bullgti.... the lil bugger can handle what you throw at it.. just dont throw too much
civicsRslow 07-09-2007, 06:02 PM do you have stock gti-r vavletrain??? i rev my stock valvetrain(but s3m) gtir motor to 8k all day long with my calum ecu
Bull GTi 07-09-2007, 06:11 PM Nah, it's not a GTiR motor, it's a HIGH PORT on GTiR management.
S4's
JWT springs
Ferrera Titanium retainers
Greddy RAS
HKS Sprockets
That's it!!!
BlkB14 07-09-2007, 06:18 PM thats cool i guess
but are you even making power past 7500-8000 rpm??
Digitek 07-09-2007, 06:25 PM Its safe and possible...we have been seeing 9k + for few years now.
S13 RWD RED TOP
ferrea springs
tomei 272 cams
tomei solid lifter kit (with hydraulic lifters we took it to 9k too but not safe on the mind)
and greddy ras
tomei sprockets
gt35r .82 housing turbo
power band on dyno from 6k to 9,450rpm
sr20venosfreak 07-09-2007, 06:45 PM Is that the one that you have a video on your website.
Digitek 07-09-2007, 06:52 PM Yeap, Dad's S13 on e2sr20.com
Bowlcut 07-09-2007, 06:53 PM but without major cams and port work....are you even making power? whats the point...easier on the driver and the engine to shift and get into a meaty power band
sr20venosfreak 07-09-2007, 07:13 PM Yeap, Dad's S13 on e2sr20.com
Did it ever make it to the track.
iamhappy46 07-09-2007, 07:44 PM but without major cams and port work....are you even making power? whats the point...easier on the driver and the engine to shift and get into a meaty power band
bullgti has a big turbo and it was still increasing power and torque above 8000rpm previously.
daveracer 07-09-2007, 07:55 PM 8,000 is pretty good with what you have. Anything higher and it's not even worth it!
Bull GTi 07-10-2007, 05:55 PM It was making 368 WHP @ 10 psi right on the rev limiter (8200ish RPM) back in November, and was still climbing on the graph.
The O2 manifold has pushed the powerband a lot higher, especially at low boost, so I need to rev it to make the most of it.
It's good for the circuit where I race (Knockhill).
Domiken 07-10-2007, 06:26 PM Damn.... I couldnt even imagine that in that little car.
Cliff 07-10-2007, 06:31 PM Heh, my SR sees 8200-8500 almost on a daily basis. So far, she's taken it and wanted more punishment. I don't think I'm going to give her any more, though. :D
You've got balls, though. I don't think I'd want to take it to 9K. That's too...umm...Hondaesque
sr20venosfreak 07-10-2007, 07:15 PM Bull GTi what turbo are you running.
Bull GTi 07-11-2007, 04:47 PM It's a kinda hybrid to be honest from AET turbos.
It used to be the same setup as the GT3071R-WG, but with the smaller compressor housing (2.75" inlet & 2" oulet), but a had it modified to take the 76mm compressor wheel and them port the turbine housing and install a larger wastegate.
It pretty much good for 500 ponies!!!
I do feel however that I am at the limit with the T28 style housing and internal wastegate.
