: JDM engine lacks power
BigMcB 07-10-2007, 12:56 AM The motor more a less runs great, lots of nice low-end torque, but overall I believe it lacks power in addition to an idle issue on initial start-up. With the distributor fully advanced the car runs and idles best. This is is my first engine swap with fuel injection so this territory is fairly unknown to me, is it possible the knock sensor is pulling timing? Would it be possible for someone to tell me where the sensor is located (i'm still yet to hunt down a manual) So I can move it over from my old usdm engine.
BigMcB 07-10-2007, 01:20 AM I think I found the knock sensor. Is it the black sensor about midway on the block under the intake manifold with he special plug that requires a clip to be removed and installed every time it gets unplugged? Thanks guys
XxToKeSxX 07-10-2007, 01:23 AM its pretty easy to take it off from the back side w/ a 10mm... and then take the clip out.

ha ya when the motor is out u mean:running:
iamhappy46 07-10-2007, 01:55 AM Its a 12mm actually.
I would check for vacuum leaks first and then set the dizzy so the top bolt is in the middle of the dizzy slot as that is around 15 degrees. Advance it too far with the knock sensor disconnected and the ECU will advance timing til the motor goes bang.
pathfinder7 07-10-2007, 02:32 AM I am keeping an eye on this one, just in case I have the same issue.
A couple more days and I hope to have my JDM installed.
Thanks for the info. Subscribed

silver200 07-10-2007, 04:13 PM I am having the exact same problem with my JDM since I have installed it and am going nuts. It sucks on initial start up, but then will run fine unless I get on it, and it will def. lack power, especially at 4k on up. I have tried everything you can possibly think of, and have no codes being thrown. If you find the problem, please let me know. Today I was thinkin about the knock sensor too, does anyone know if the JDM knock sensor on a highport will work in a OBDII B14? (not meaning to hijack)

Ok. Did you check the timing after you swapped the motor?
silver200 07-10-2007, 05:47 PM I've checked it about 5 times, I've had it set at 17 and 15, which is what it's at now.
BigMcB 07-10-2007, 06:53 PM Well, Today I went and changed the knock sensor over from old engine (not a task for the faint of heart, but very possible) Then I set the timing to a little over 15 deg. and ooooh man!! it gets a little crazy in first gear with it floored. It just pulls and pulls. I opened it up the freeway today and it laughs all the way up to 180 km/h. I dont plan to go any faster until I do my alignment and put in some new rear brake pads, but rest assured it had alot more in it.
BigMcB 07-10-2007, 06:59 PM I'm still having some idle issues. To start it up you need to give it gas as soon as the engine catches and then hold it at 2000 rpm for a little while. A few stalled intersections later and it seems to steady itself nicely. This is the same problem my old engine had when I first got the car (I swapped the intake over for reasons of wiring and emissions), although it somehow seemed to fix itself after a few months. Does anyone know what this sounds like? maybe dirty injectors or a bad tps? Thanks for all the help guys
pathfinder7 07-10-2007, 07:01 PM Thank you, I will take a look at mine, just to make sure I understand if this issue will effect me.
You may have just saved me a lot of headaches.

iamhappy46 07-10-2007, 07:37 PM BigMcB: Sounds like the idle air control valve needs a decent clean out but it could also be a number of other common SR20 problems, from leaking injectors, TPS voltage not set correctly, etc
silver200 07-10-2007, 09:46 PM Glad you figured it out, I'm gonna try that now and see if it helps me since the same thing is happening. :biggthump
nismo94tuner 07-10-2007, 10:17 PM Mine was feeling that way due to my TPS voltage being off. I set that, gapped the plugs to .044, and cleaned out the TB and it was pulling way smoother.
