: JDM Engine swap
NissanGuy01 06-20-2002, 03:30 PM I have almost completed a jdm engine swap into my 92 SE-R. I have basically everything hooked up to the new motor; so i figured i would try to see if it would start up, and it didnt. So I took a look at the old block and noticeded something hanging by a wire from the back of the block. I believe it is the starter. Does anyone have any instructions, pictures, or suggestions on hooking this thing up?
Serban 06-20-2002, 08:02 PM Take a picture of it. Where exactly did you find this? The starter wouldnt just be hanging by a wire. It bolts into the tranny, so when you take off the tranny bolts, the starter would come down.
NissanGuy01 06-20-2002, 10:28 PM oh..ok...i will take a picture tommorow and post it.
sleeping 91ser 06-21-2002, 12:28 AM it could be the starter, if he never bolted it back up before putting the engine and tranny in it wouldnt prevent the tranny from bolting up, try to push start the car and see what happens, also a common mistake that i also made putting the gas lines in the wrong places. Just double check stuff and make sure that everthing is plugged in and make sure most importantly that you have oil in the engine.

NissanGuy01 06-21-2002, 03:13 PM i have a link where you can see this piece of equipment. I dont know exactly what it is or what it does. Also, i have another picture on the same page. I point to an electrical connector. Can you tell me which connector goes into it? Once i get these two mysteries figured out, i will put in the battery and start her up.

david 06-21-2002, 03:46 PM The first one is definatly a starter. I believe the second picture of the connector goes unused if that is a jdm motor but I am not positive.
NissanGuy01 06-21-2002, 03:52 PM how do i go about putting in the starter. it kinda just hanging on the outside of my block by a wire that was factory ziptied to a bracket. also it is a jdm motor, but i am using the uspec wiring harness.
Serban 06-21-2002, 04:15 PM Its a good idea to have a friend help you with the starter. Someone needs to go under the car, and position it, while the other person puts in the bolts from the top.
NissanGuy01 06-21-2002, 06:22 PM are the starter bolts some kinda special setup? i have a few bolts left over from where i am wrapping up this engine swap, and none of them will fit correctly in the starter hole. the starter itself is threaded, but from what i can tell, the inside the block where it meets the starter, doesnt immediately start threading. HELP ME PLEASE! I have been without sr20 power for too long...
coach 06-24-2002, 03:30 PM the starter bolts run thru the tranny into the starter and as you tighten them it draws the starter in. if you put the starter up in its place you can see the bolts have to go in from one direction. The bolts go into the tranny under the throttle body on the jdm. Hold it in place and have someone run the bolts into it then hook up the positive wire and the little ground wire. You can use the US spec starter or a jdm starter they are very similar.

NissanGuy01 06-24-2002, 06:40 PM alright, my problem is that i already have the tranny on the engine and the engine is in the car. I just realized that the bolts go inside the tranny not on the outside. How would I go about putting the starter on while the tranny is attached to the engine?
MauiBlueGride 06-24-2002, 08:56 PM nonononono they go on the OUTSIDE of the tranny, your fine... like someone else suggested, go ahead and have a buddy hold the starter up, and then start the bolts up top (you'll see the holes below about where the throttle body is...

se-r sam 06-24-2002, 09:00 PM The bolts have a 14mm head and are about 2.5 inches long. There are 2 of them.
NissanGuy01 06-25-2002, 03:18 PM i didnt realize that the went on the outside of the tranny by the throttle body til about 10 last night. Thanks for your help!

The second picture is the EGT Sensor harness there needs to be a resistor wired in or rerouted into the exhaust system.
