I guess this will be my introduction and a question in the same thread.

Name's Vincent. I recently sold my 306 heads, cam, and intake 95 Mustang. I'll certainly miss her, but I'm looking to get into something more economical, but still with a fun factor.

I came across at 96 SE-R in a local used car dealership. The link is below, but, if any of you are like me, here's the long and short of it:

Cliffnotes:
$4,000
94k
Completely stock
All power options
5 speed
A/C works great
Relatively new tires

(http://www.autotrader.com/dealers/dda/detail.jsp?car_id=214679823&dealer_id=627719&car_year=1996&dealership_view_name=www.daytonamotorsva.com&result_car_id=225497374&first_record=76&sort_type=make_modelASC&pager.offset=75&cardist=25)

The car is in relatively good condition on the outside, a few door dings and a few bumps and scrapes. The inside of the car is in almost perfect condition. The car drove fine, stopped fine, and handled well.

My question is how is this price? If it's too high, how much would you, the SR20 experts, pay for the car? Are there any common problems I should be on the lookout for.

Thanks in advance.

I personally think thats a bit expensive for $4k...

I would personally go for this (http://www.sr20forum.com/cars-sale/204061-fs-200sx-se-r.html), its only $2k also

But see if you can knock down the price to at least $3500 for that one...

I think 4K is okay. Try and get it dropped down a couple hundred. Clean car though.

As for something to watch out for. I have a 96 SE-R, and I see a lot about this on the boards also, but with the miles being that low you might want to make sure the odometer is working correctly. My car has 102 on the clock, but in reality its probably closer to 130. The odometer will work for a few days and then all of a sudden it will stop working. I think its a fairly common problem with the 200SX. Not sure if its year specific or not, just something to keep an eye on. Being that the car has such low miles. Good Luck!

I paid $3700 for my 97 se-r with 134k miles. was worth it to me cause its one in a million. red is fairly common and could probably find one for cheaper but proably with more miles. SE-Rs are fun as hell to drive!

1st. do a carfax to find out where the car's been all it's life! personally, i would shy away from one that's been in states that have bad winters and use salt on the roads=RUST.
2nd. the miles are more than decent if accurate.
3rd. my 97 has 191k on it and has no rust. (been garaged all it's life)
4th. the color is a personal choice :(

good luck

I don't know how far back in time they go, but you could check on:

Edmonds

NADA

Kelly Blue Book

I just Googled them up, and checked pricing on a Tahoe I am about to buy. It was very helpful, you can check private party, retail, and trade-in values.

Picked up the car on Sunday. Ended up paying $3500 for it plus a $150 processing fee.

I'm looking forward to posting lots here in the future.

Just bought a '97 SE-R 5 speed all power with sunroof for $3550. Mine has some slight rust at driver door hinge but I'm about to get that fixed.

Sold my '04 Spec V a few months ago, and have missed it ever since. I see why all these guys love the SR20. Bone stock, this thing rolls!

Did I say it would stay stock? Hehe.
