The sound is nice. Mostly a deeper rumble up to 3000rpm when the WAI honk takes over. Not obstrusive at all. Its like you almost feel it as vibration more than hear it. Not a hint of rice. The guy doin the install was surprised. Literally said "Not a farting coffee can at all! I like it." Classy look to it too, we agreed.
Full catback system, @ 2&1/8" before the resonator. A Catco 2" universal cat cause i guessed (correctly) it was just starin to go bad.
SOTP analysis.
Slightly more responsive everywhere, specially from 3000rpm up. Noticable bump in power 4000-6000 and maybe a little bit up top too. Mid range improvement is prolly synergistic w/ the intake. No loss down low either.
Thats why i went w/ a 2" cat, 2&1/4" would have had over an 1/8" lip upstream and close the same after. Now there's only a slightly smaller lip at the outlet as the piping expands. Flow would be about the same, but less turbulence to preserve velocity (?).
Kinda itchin to finish the CAI & see what happens. Hoping it tones the intake honk down a notch so as to hear the exhaust a little better. =P
especse_r 06-22-2002, 05:01 AM good looking muffler.. what is it?
Sr20kidD 06-22-2002, 05:46 AM ah.. its the almighty HKS ser muffler.. hehe
what do i win.
especse_r 06-22-2002, 06:06 AM where do you get one? and for how much?
Yes-Ser 06-22-2002, 12:39 PM Yeah, thats the HKS for the classic. I have the b14 HKS which looks a little different, but like the b13 model, doesn't produce a ricey sound. I had broken a bolt in the cat when I put mine in, so I had to take it to a muffler shop to get it drilled out. The guy was pretty impressed as well as he said it had "a very nice tone".
SmoothDaddyFig 06-22-2002, 12:46 PM I like it!!!
Looks real good and almost stockish.

NOPI online. $440. $tillen sells it for $100 more.
Not cheap but bout $100 less than a Greddy. I buy the CW (conventional wisdom) that it's the quietest of the good bolt on ones. Stillen seems like a quality piece for cheaper but heard it's loud. I needed to preserve day to day drivability. And really, more torque for AutoX (whoohoo).
Coulda fabbed something myself but time is tough (w/ the new house and all) plus i HATE exhaust werk. Would rather pull an engine. =P Well not solo. The brake rebuild and bushings are my limit.

Oh yeah. Real subtle. I am SERiously considering debadging OR just leaving just the R, not sure yet. My fogs fell off (one of them literaly, iHateRust) so did the rear Nissan badge. I've got a really low key look goin now. Don't ferget the painted (black) AD22s. Eventually my winter tires will go on my 14" five spokes, need to fab Nissan center caps. I did this on the Bimmah w/ the Borbets, looks like this ---->

Next summer i'll be on the B14 15". Reverse of 'Helga' where the summer tires are on the aftermarket (badged to look stock)wheels. Between that and lookin like an old fart, i don't get revved at much even in 'Teddy'. Thank god, "you wanna race me, name the strip, parkinlot or track. SHEESH! And use yer turnsignal ya punk! Dagnabbit.
And Yes-SER, you know what i mean bout the sound. Sleeper city. BTW nice Avatar.

paul p 06-23-2002, 04:35 PM Have spent some time in traffic; soft shoe, short shift cruisin mode. Very subtle rumble, perfect compliment to the faint growl from the WAI. Nice power delivery, responsive and smooth down low.
Funny thing i noticed, this HKS muffler is a dead ringer for a late 90s Maxima single outlet OEM.
Hmmmm, very interesting. No?
I like, i like alot.

Cooper91SE-R 06-24-2002, 08:34 PM HKS did there homework on this one.(LES-NO4)
The B-pipe is 55mm in diameter, the rear section is 60mm. The HKS is Quite Hi-Flo exhaust system that preforms from idle to
redline. I love it.
ThomasSr20 06-24-2002, 11:25 PM That muffler looks stock, good for the people that love the sleeper look
blackb13 06-25-2002, 12:01 AM It's about damn time you got rid of that pee-shooter exhaust. Give it back to John Deere. The HKS piece looks simply fabulous.
