The temp guage on my NX creeps higher and higher if I have the AC on and am driving in slow traffic. If I turn off the AC it returns the middle. Any idea what could cause this? The AC works well until the needle starts climbing. HELP, it is too hot out for this!

Make sure you got good coolent in, then its well bled, check the tstat, then its the water pump. Unfortutnaly i think its the pump, check the archives but IIRC thats it

Might want to check that the fans are coming on too.

Check the www.se-r.net mailing list archives. There is no real cure for this cause if it is out there I have yet to find it. Mine overheats at any temperature above 92 degrees. Funny mine will do it when I am driving on the highway. It eventually comes down but not after turning on the heat or turning the A/C off then on again. I have bled the coolant, replaced the thermostat and added Water Wetter. Still does it.
I suspect that this happened after you swapped to R134.
I was listening to a radio show the other day and the host said he saw cars overheating while driving with the A/C on when customers swapped to R134. He said something about older R12 equipted cars have a problem with the condensor with 134. I will ask him for the his response soon.

I still have the original refrigerant in it. I think it started happening after the car overheated last year because the upper radiator hose colapsed. A shop replaced the hose and coolant then.

Mine has the same symptom. I do believe this is due to the small front opening of the NX. The air that comes in to help cool the radiator looking thing for the A/C is restricted to small amount. (Sorry had a brain freeze and can't remember what they are called.)
Kojima had mentioned this problem before to me before I had bought my NX. He also had told me that the NX are prone to overheating because of the small front opening.
I am using R134. I too have practically done what I can to help eliminate the problem. I've also taken my car to Nissan to check the over all health of my A/C.

This is a response in the Technical section. It sounds very reasonable.

Having had 'not new' Nissans for the last 20 years, my experience is that if you get overheating at speed in hot weather, but not in traffic jams, then if fans etc. are working it's usually the radiator at fault.
In my area (salty U.K. roads) it always seems to be the horizontal corrugated thin metal fins that rot and become so thin after about 8 years that they do nothing but slow down airflow through the gaps between the vertical water channels and do little to conduct heat away.
This is my response:
Overheating on the highway while moving is a common problem on B13 and P10 cars. We just had this discussion at E-Town Sunday. There are tons of threads on the SE-R mailing list archives and there is yet to be a solution. It is even worst on the NX2000. This problem only seems to occur at temps over like 92-93. Anything below that is it OK. I have done a flush, thermostat, waterwetter, cleaned the condensor and changes to a 1 bar radiator cap. Nothing seems to help. It is a cooling problem I suspect. Turning on the heat helps. But it is annoying. At highway speeds the fans shut off so the header heat is not helping the situation if it is being circulated around with 100 degree ground tempetatures to the radiator.

This is getting annoying. Lately I have been taking the bike to work because the car is so hot. When I take the car I have the t-tops in and the sun shades in the tops. When I got home the other day there was a gurgling sound coming from the radiator and coolant recovery tank. Now that the car is cool the recovery tank is empty.
i know this is old but i have the same problem in my b13. Would a new dual core radiator solve this problem? and is there still no real solution to this?
