: DSM Turbo Question

My friend recently blew up the engine on his '96 Eclipse GST and said that I could have his turbo if I wanted it. I saw this in a thread when I searched:

"The DSM T25 will not bolt onto a Bluebird or GTiR Manifold. It is not a conventional T25 flange!"

Can I make it fit? Redrilling the bolt holes is no problem for me, or I can machine an adapter plate easily. I'm not sure if the specs are the same as the turbos found on the DET's. I suppose I have more research to do first, but your input would be appreciated.

I would prefere either changing the turbine housing for a T25/8 type, or just re-weld a flange into the stock manifold....

look on www.thepartstrader.com or www.dsmtrader.com

He can find a 14B from the older DSM's that will bolt up to his manifold and it's alot better than the T25. He could find a used 16G on there too he just has to look.

Yellow, what I think he is asking is if he can use the eclipse turbo on a SR20 powered car...???... I have also heard that Mitsu uses their own flange for the turbo.(but don't know for sure) You would have to fab a downpipe for it and I'm not sure where the outlet of the compressor faces. Well if it's free and in good condition it might be worth it, but it will take some work. If your gonna have to pay money for it, might just want to buy a BB turbo that you know will fit. EDIT: Sorry Yellow misread your post, so a 14B will bolt up to BB manifold? How bout a 16/20G(yum)? Would the wastegate come out alright since the turbo would be facing 180 degrees on the BB vs Eclipse?

Really, right now turboing my car is more of a hypothetical situation than anything. Right now I'm too broke to do anything, but if I can get a free turbo that will work, I'm that much closer to a whole setup. I was asking because if I can't use it, there's no point in me taking it when he can sell it.

hahaha I'm lost. I thought he his friend was looking for a replacement turbo. I could tell u if it would bolt up to the nissan manifold. Mitsu uses there own type flange on the T25 thats why it will bolt up to the mitsu manifold. The 14B is a mitsu turbo. Then u would have to clock it because the waste gate would prob hit the block. Mitsu engines have the cam gears on the right side vs the SR20 left side. If u really wanted to use one I guess u could try and machine the manifold to make the flange line up.

Dont waste your time with the smaller mistu turbo's if your planning on going small. Buy a t-28 new they range from 600-800 just for the turbo or buy a DET and remove turbo stuff and sell block. If someone spends time and effort using a mistu turbo
might as well go with a turbo that a nissan uses. The 14bs and t-25's for thre mitsu's spool fast but die fast in the higher rpm range. Due to there in-effciency. if you wanted to use a Big 16g i would do that but nothing less personally i dont think its worth the trouble or the chance in getting a bad item .
