: Disposable Vinyl gloves...FTW
eggman 07-24-2007, 12:13 PM I just wanted to share this with you guys
I have been parting out a couple cars and I work on my own vehicles lot.(like alot of you).
I am not afraid to get dirty,or anything, but it is sweet being able to just pull off the gloves to answer thre phone or get a drink, take a piss,whatever..Just turn them inside out as you take them off and you are good to go.They even have powder in them for easy on/off.
I hate using gloves because you can't feel everything with your hands and fingers.Sometimes it is hard to use tools, too.
I tried some latex(hospital style ones from Home depot, and they rip too easy. They also dont hold up to many oils, fluids, etc.very well.
But...I found some disposable Vinyl ones a Walgreens(3.99 for 100).
These are awesome. They are thin enough to be useful, but thick enough to hold up to some abuse.By the time they rip they are ready to be changed anyway.
I don't use them all the time, but anytime I do something that is really dirty work,I do.
Try it some time...it is weird at first but I bet you will start using them .
The Vinyl ones really haol up to fluids, oils etc well .And they are great if you have cuts on your hands and you want to keep them from getting infected, too.
Walgreens in the cleaning dep 3.99 for 100 gloves
pjsammy 07-24-2007, 03:50 PM i do this quite often as well. quick clean-up and quickly being able to take a break make it a no-brainer for me. once you're used to em, they're not intrusive about 90% of the time.
i also use a big (non-disposable) pair for washing the car sometimes. after i finish washing when it's cold/dry out, my hands get REALLY dried out. so rather than use a crap load of my wife's lotion i just use those bathroom cleaning gloves and we're good to go!
jerryeads 07-31-2007, 08:19 PM Great tip. thanx. Been getting gloves at Harbor Freight, they're okay, but I'll try a box of these.

ETTInnov03 08-01-2007, 09:54 PM I'm the same way, don't really mind getting dirty. I don't know how I do it, but I always end up with it all over my arms and face, in my hair etc. I'd like to try gloves, but I'd still have to clean up. Unless there is a full body glove, I think I'm out of luck, lol.
Katana200sx 08-05-2007, 01:58 AM i got lucky. i got 10 cases of gloves from work a couple weeks ago. they are the ones surgeons and other medical workers use when treating a patient. i have yet to rip them, unlike the blue gloves i used before. 3 pallets suffered water damage from a leaky trailer so they just gave them away. owens and minor carries them and so does cardinal healthcare.
SE-Rican 08-05-2007, 09:39 AM When we work on cars we use vynil gloves all the time. Wife hates dirty finger nails :D

The ones used by EMTs and the sorts are great. Nice and thick, the ones I used even had some extra grip on the finger tips.

yep, must be about the same ones. these have subtle(sp) grips on the fingers.
classicaddict 08-14-2007, 02:38 AM i use them all day long every day. made by "diamond grip" mine are nytrile. another really cool thing is you can spray some degreaser on them every few hours or so and it keeps your tools cleaner.
I always use them when I work on my P11 as well but everybody would make fun of me and call me a p*ssy for not getting my hands dirty. Oh well at least they're nice and clean for the ladies and mini-me is happy that he doesn't get dirty when I go use the bathroom.

If anyone calls you a wuss, just remind them that oil and the like are known carcinogens. You'd hate to get cancer and wonder if it's because you were very intimate with dirty engine block 20 yrs ago.

Benito Malito 08-14-2007, 11:25 PM Yeah I like the vinyl ones too.
skcusloa 08-15-2007, 01:21 AM I work on cars everyday for a living. I don't use them. For one reason, I don't want to pay for them.
Every other job I've been at supplied them, this one doesn't. Something in my mind won't let me buy them. When I really need them, I borrow them. That's like once a month.
I remember when I did use them, my hands still got all screwed up, and they ripped all the time. I've tried every type, the blue ones, the thick ones, the cheap ones, all of them ripped. When you get cuts on your hand, and then the glove fills with sweat, it gets nasty. Your hand still smells all funky when you take it out, so you still gotta wash them.
Jaketips42 08-17-2007, 07:54 PM Diamond makes a great latex. The snap ons are real nice too. A guy came to my shop and gave us a few pairs of these black latex gloves. They looked just like tattoo gloves. They lasted the whole day while working on cars. And you don't see them get dirty. So the mental part of it's real dirty and time to change is gone. I'll have to find that source of the black ones.
totaled200ser 08-17-2007, 09:42 PM i use the diamond grip nitrile at work too, i think i pay around 12 bucks for 100. don't like to work without them anymore, so much easier. the only bad thing is when you melt them on your fingers, lol.
Bowlcut 08-19-2007, 01:08 AM yea vinyl gloves are nice. they are thicker thats for sure. another option is thicker EMT style gloves.

thats what i always used while i was doing emt ride alongs. they are like 2 and 3 times thicker than regular gloves. most usualy say, "stick resistant" cause they are so thick. they last a good long time, and have extra grip compared to some vinyl gloves.
i still love my mechanics gloves for everything minus greasy/oily stuff like changing the oil...or very tiny stuff.
i guess if you use gloves for a long time, you get used to them and can work with them well. very rarely do i get into a situation where i cant feel what im doing
