I have recently bought a classic se-r which for some reason is giving me more headaches than i expected. Here is my list of concerns/problems in no particular order:
1) when i turn the steering wheel all the way to the left or the right i head a sqeaking noise, am i just low on power steering fluid?
2) the a/c does not blow cold, the green light comes on, but i do not hear the a/c turning on, i checked the fuse in the fuse block, but the fuse is good, does it need to be charged or is the compressor not turning on?
3) sometimes my rear defroster wont go on, the orange light won't come on when i press the buton, do i hafta have the regular defroster on?
4) the car seems to have not that good pickup until about 40 mph, this is an auto, and my b13 xe auto seemed a little bit quicker, and all it had was an 8 inch k&n hooked up the stock maf, ps headers, and universal muffler, should i get a cai?
5) i am having the same problem with my b13 xe, dimming headlights when the bass hits, do you think i should get a capacitor?
6) i have an auto, and when i put the switch into power, the light doesnt light up red, is this setting not coming on, or is the switch just broken?
7) the hood doesnt pop up when i pull the lever, should i lube up the part on the hood, or the part on the chassis?
8) i was told it was not changed, but i can not open my trunk with the same key i use to open the doors and use in the ignition, is there some sort of lock somewhere?
9) the steering wheel shakes when i am above 70 mph, should i get an alignment?
I miss my xe :(

Don't worry too much bro, these are very easy fixes/problems not to worry about.

1) Check your fluid. That's one way to find out. If that's fine, put the front end up on jackstands and turn the wheels from under the car to pinpoint the squeaking. You may have some bad bushings or something of the like. If you are low on fluid, then the squeaking is from the teeth in the steering rack rubbing against each other because, well there is no fluid to lubricate. Fill it with fluid, find the leak, and pray the squeaking stops. If not, you may need to replace the rack.

2) You probably have a leak. Bring it to an a/c shop. They will convert you to R134A refrigerant (its newer CFC-free stuff...our cars came with R12 originally and it likes to burn holes in the ozone). They will put a dye in it so they can trace the leak with a blacklight. What happens from there depends on where the leak is coming from. . .

3) I'm not sure how to check if its working other than fogging up your windows and testing it. Get funky with a member of the opposite sex (or whoever suits your fancy) and fog em up. Hit the switch and see if you can see people peeking at you. If you can, it works and you'll see photos of you on the internet. If not, then either the defrost lines are broke somewhere or you have a bad switch. THe orange light doens't really matter, my orange light works sometimes, but the defroster works regardless.

4) Visit se-r.net. Tune your car up with plugs, wires, rotor & cap, MAF reground, oil change, coolant flush, etc etc etc. Advance your timing. Then see which car you like better.

5) If you are running more than say...800 watts, get a capacitor with 1 farad capacity. That will solve your problem. Till then, turn down your gains on the amp so you don't burn your expensive alternator and battery and leave you stranded somewhere.

6) see # 3.

7) Mine does this too. Grease your latch and see if it gets better. Or clean it out first, then grease it.

8) Mine also does this. Jiggle the key in there enough and eventually it will catch the pins........if the lock was truly never changed. Otherwise, use the ever-handy trunk release lever.

9) Get your wheels/tires balanced and rotated. After that, check your CV boots. If they are ripped and the axles are starting to go bad, that could cause some shaking. Get an alignment too.

Good luck, and good riddance to the XE! Long live the SE-R! Hope this helps
