Take about shit happens. I was just driving down I-40 today when all the sudden>>>BAM...Hear come a tire flap off a semi and hits my front bumper and breaks the bottom part. It also broke my fog light on the right side. Talk about being pissed. I got the semi licenes and went and talked to my State Farm ppl. and they said that never have they been able to get anything out of semi for this kind of thing. I think that its a bunch of horse shit that this goes on but I have no power to do anything about it. I figured I would just share this story so that some of you guys might want to be carefull next time you around a semi with shitty tires.

Hey, sorry to hear that, I hope it does not cost to much to get your car fixed.

BTW most semi Trucks use recap tires, they are a lot cheaper than new tires, so watch out, during the hot summer months, they get much hotter and will fly off.

so in other words....you were following too closely to the truck to be able to safely manuever from flying debri....? LOL...you should always leave 5-6 car lengths at the LEAST behind a truck....more if you are smart...and dont stay behind them. I have seen pics of tire caps coming off and going thru car windshields.

Avoid trucks like the plague and you will be fine.

a rock picked up by a semi's wheel cracked my friend's windshield. the truck was going by him in the other direction on a 2-lane. he turned around and got the plate # or business # off the semi, and somehow got a whole free windshield put on

Yeah, I not going to worry with it. My car has yet to be fixed from when a hail storm hit us a while back. They said that they would just fix it for free when it went in the shop. :) lucky me. I wasnt really on the semis butt or anything. I know I was at least 3 cars lenghts behind him and I was in the other lane.

Thats the only story I heard of being like that (seltd) Whats the name of that company so I can act like it was then. LOL> JK

Couldn't you consider that to be a hit and run incident? That is covered by Uninsured Motorist correct? Just a thought....

What if there are cars on either side of yah? you going to cause a pile up on the freeway trying to "manuever" a mud flap?

Regardless of what your insurance says, you can call in a police report make sure to give them the plate number off the truck. In a couple of days you can get a copy of the police report for a couple of bux, it will have the truck owners contact info, name etc on it. Then you can contact them about the problem, if they don't offer to take care of the damage contact there insurance company.

Once on an on ramp, I was at least 15-20 car lengths (i.e. *very* far behind) a semi. I hear this faint <boom> and Im looking around, thinking Im going crazy.

Well, suddenly a few seconds later, I hear a <THUD!> on my trunk!

One of his retreads blew off, flew in the air, then landed on my car! What are the odds of that?!?

A couple of weeks ago, 2 young guys where driving down the road and a tire flew of the semi and hit their car. It killed the driver. The sad thing was the kid that was killed was named the best baseball player in the state. The driver is being charged with homicide.

What gets me is the mentality. Like the dump trucks with signs on the back that read, "Stay XXft back. Driver not responsible for cargo," or something or other. Like that disclaimer has any validity.

I was on I45 once in houston, about 75 ft back from a semi, when all of a sudden the whole assembly of 2 wheels and tires broke free from the truck, flew about 20 feet in the air, and crashed into the roof/windshield of an eclipse in the next lane behind us..... the driver pulled over and i could see that he was bleeding

Yah those signs me nothing!

That is like having a sign on your back window stating "driver having target practice stay back xx-feet driver not responsible for stray bullets".

I got a free paint job a few years back due to a lazy dump truck driver not covering his load.

Sounds like to me that there is trouble with semis and other large vehicals all the time. Most semi drivers are small town rednecks that dont give a shit.

llaprad1 yeah those signs are a joke
