Some time ago I posted a couple questions on what to look for when purchasing a B13 SE-R. I'm proud to say that it's finally mine. Delivered yesterday, I got this car as an even swap for some motor parts that were taking up space in my garage; no cash was exchanged, so in essence the car was free.

My name is Chris and I've been on this board for a while now, finally registered about a year ago. I started out as a S13 SR guy (miss that car :() but after selling it a year and a half ago, I'm finally back. The goal here is to a have a SE-R that creates a smile every time I drive it; something that I can enjoy driving and create thrills without a lot of cash and something that is pleasant to ride in for the fiancé when I can't take my pride and joy. We'll explore the engine, suspension, exterior and interior of the B13. There will be some carefully chosen modifications and a lot of research in hopes to minimize the newbish questions.

On with the car, she's a 1991 SE-R with 239k miles, rod-knock, and a smell that well...I just can't handle at the moment. There is a small bit of rust, the trunk leaks, the dash is cracked, the head liner sags, and the interior could use a good wash. But none the less the chassis seems to be straight with no major body work in its past or future. The car is unmolested; everything is there, minus the fog lights

The fabric on the headliner sags because it gets old and the glue (crappy to begin with) lets go. Just needs to be taken off, sanded down a little and new fabric put on with the 3M adhesive.

That would be the infamous headliner sag that plagues all cars with this headliner design, very common in B13's. That's one of the first things on the list of things to do.

So I tore into it this weekend hoping to get it on the road this week and see if there any issues with drivability. I worked my way back to a clogged fuel filter and replaced that only to find that I still wasn't getting any fuel. Check all fuses and took a test light to the main connector to the fuel pump and it turns out that the pump is shot. So in a couple of days I'll have a walbro to install.

Since it wasn’t going to run anyway, I took the time to pull out the seats and give them a good cleaning, I'm sure they have not been touched since 1991, it was pretty bad. I think it could use a couple more cleanings down the road, but for now its a HUGE improvement.

I was also looking at the carpet and there are a lot of stains and hard crusty substances imbedded, I'm thinking about replacing it with a new molded carpet. It wouldn't be anything crazy, probably black like OEM. I think for $150 it would be worth it to have a clean, disease free carpet :). Anyone ever done this or have any experience with it? I found (1) place that has a carpet for the SE-R and its $140 I think.

So last night I installed my walbro and got it running. I drove it around last night for about 1.5hrs and to work this morning :). For the amount of miles on her, she's in pretty good shape mechanically. The "knocking" is hit or miss, it only happens at partial throttle, if you mash it she sounds just fine.

There is also an issue with the idle and I think it's down on power. Its struggling to idle when you first start it and it feels like there is excess backpressure during acceleration. It also drops revs very quickly which makes me think the cat may be clogged, but I'm just jumping to specualations here, its only been running < 24hours. I have new goodies coming as well, I'll post up pics this weekend.

Edit: I also forgot to mention that the car has no 5th gear popout, at least not yet :CrossesFingers:

Try to clean out your AAC/IACV valve, ETTInnov03...that could help your idle problems.

will do, thanks for the advice. I'm sure it has more than one problem, but I'm at that point where I need to get it moving for a few days to figure out what all is going on.

I have heard that to wash the seats, you can take off all of the seat covers and throw them in a washing machine if they are really bad. i may do this myself. I am not sure how this would affect the psuedo leather of the b13 se-r seats though.

edit: I know you can do this with NX seats because they are all cloth.

We may have to hook up and knock it all out in one day, if your up for it. I have to find a place to grab the fabric for the headliner, any recomendations, maybe any fabric store I suppose.

Thanks, I had actually been considering ripping them off and throwing them in the washer. But in their previous form, I wouldn't do that to my washer :)

Yeah I've been here before, many times over. I've had some pretty cool cars along the way but I'm happy to be back in the family. It won't be anything crazy...I promise :D
