: low idle
nasah86 07-30-2007, 02:08 AM hey all, i'm a new member but i've been reading this forum for ahile. i have a white 91 nx2000. problem with it though, is when i'm at say a stop light my idle will go down to 200 rpms and then up to the 400-600 range and stay there. sometimes on the bounce down it will just die and when your driving, thats not good because then your power steering will cut off. so, any ideas on why such a low rpm and any sugestions to getting it fixed?

Yellow4g63 07-30-2007, 05:14 AM My idle drops that low with my A/C on. A few times it has just stalled out. Wish I wasn't so lazy I would look deeper into it.
S383mmber1 07-30-2007, 10:25 AM I would start by checking all vacume lines/connections. Then lets go from there
nasah86 07-30-2007, 12:23 PM so like the vaccume line going to the ac? as you can tell i dont' know much about car stuff but i would really like to learn how to work on my own car...
Fatman489 07-30-2007, 12:45 PM I myself have been trying to diagnose this very problem im cleaned BPT EGR and reground my MAF all kinds of stuff and so far its gotten a little better but still not like it should be. Deff check for vacum leaks and you may want to clean out the metal tube that leads from the 4th primary to the BPT valve :D
nasah86 07-30-2007, 08:16 PM well, unfortunitly, on the way into town my car died :( so not really sure whats up with that. wont turn over or anything, so it's having some major behavior problems that hopefully within a few days will be corrected.
nasah86 07-31-2007, 02:00 PM well, i took my car into the shop because it wouldn't start right...and it turned out my altinator was shot. so....could that be the cause of the low idle or at least be helping contribute to it?
snj2245 08-01-2007, 05:47 PM i remember there was another thread like this awhile ago.... i think someone said it was probably the fast idle control solenoid. Not sure if anyone did it and it worked but maybe thats it.
Oh i found it: http://www.sr20forum.com/sr20de-technical-corner/189110-car-almost-dies-when-pushing-clutch.html
piratetrucker 08-02-2007, 06:41 AM A bad alternator would def give you weird stuff in the engine. The ignition system doesn't have the proper power going.
Advice: Go to the auto parts store and buy yourself a new fuel filter. It's not that hard to change with basic tools, and if you don't know when it was done last, then it probably needs it. It's good insurance from starving your engine.
Tsuru Xer 12-01-2007, 03:35 PM Hey Guys
Dad and I did a swap from 1.6 auto to a 2.0 manual...
when the car starts, it cold starts about 500 rpm and warms to 1000 rpm
if i shut it off and warm start it, it would crank up and shut off unless i give it alittle gas...
has anyone have this problem before?
anyone know what/where to correct?
thanks

check the intake hose from the airbox to throttle body, you should've started a new thread
