Ok guys, I know some people might be interested in this info, but I got the DET smogged and completely legal and I won't be bothered for at least another 2 years (can we say straight pipe and more boost? Heheheh).

First the results:

These are from CA's Smog Pretest. The tech passed me on everything visual because I don't think he cared much, but whatever.

2500 rpms max measured
HC (ppm)140 165
CO (%) 1.00 0.52

IDLE rpms max measured
HC (ppm) 120 302
CO (%) 1.00 0.46

As you can see, I failed the HC portion of the test at both rpms. But, here's the kicker, my DET is registered in IL. Simply fax results to IL, explain the CA standards are a little more strict than IL and I passed smog requirements.

I say if you really want a DET in CA, register your car with some family or a good friend out of state so you're able to receive pertinent registration info and do just as I did. Simple.

Hope that helps anyone out!

that kinda seems like the guy just overlooked everything ***.

if i misread please let me know, but in theory he could have failed you on visual, or for the emissions... it makes for some good social engineering(convincing the person to let you pass) but if the guy is a dick, then you're screwed. also, would this work at a test only station?

I just bought a 200sx SE-R with the hotshot turbo kit on it, and am having trouble passing emitions in VA. The few place I took it to will not pass the visual. Any ideas? Anyone know of any friendly emitions stations in VA?

thanks!

For those of you looking for places that will pass you for the visual, just try to find some hole-in-the-wall type shops. The people at these types of shops probably will be just happy to have the business and will probably be a little lenient on the visual.

Just a suggestion...
