That's interesting...

I used to work at a Nissan dealership up until a few months ago. We had a Spec-V with only a few k on it come in with a blown engine. It had just been in for it's first service a few weeks before. I did the service and remembered the car because I was surprised at the time that it already had ricey dress up items. When it came in, we all assumed the guy over reved it downshifting. When I took a look at it though, it didn't have any oil on the stick. I was really surprised to say the least. I was the last one to touch it at the dealership and I know I put oil in it... again, I remember looking at the dressup items while I was filling it. As normal, we sent the engine back to Nissan for diagnossis. That was the last I heard about it...

I think it was in the last SCC that Dave COleman did a write up on the QR25. He mentioned that the way balance shaft system worked was pretty crappy. Basically oil would drip into it, get beat up and aerated and the only way for the oil to escape was by over flowing out of the balance shaft assembly. This would tend to cause th oil to froth up which is not a good thing and a likely cause of disappeaing oil. I was at the dyno day and rewsn' car was not billowing "oil smoke" out of the tailpipe. The only thing coming out of there was some unburnt fuel above 5K RPMs. Either way, pretty scary specially since my old man has a 2.5 Alty.
