Hey guys,
I've been lookin online about nx's and im noticing a recurring term "5th gear popout" throughout the years..i always wondered what that was of course until all of a sudden my car likes to slam the car out of 5th gear randomly when driving....how lovely!

This is weird because this is my 2nd clutch (I got about 120k on it) and it's never done it till now.

Any info, suggestions? Is it possible to fix without a replacement?Since I've seen it many places, does the dealer know about the problem and can they fix it (for free even??)

And no, changing the clutch won't fix it, since 5th gear has nothing to do with the clutch, but rather the gear inside the transmission.

Dude, you are done. Buy a new used tranny for 450 and swap it out. Then you can rebuild fifth on your own time or send it to a shop and have it cryo and the cae welded so when you are ready for the DET swap you have a tranny that is ready to go with you.

I have a 92 NX2k, bought it new, and I've never had it pop out of 5th. I consider myself VERY lucky...

However, for about the first 2 years, it was an absolute BITCH to get it in reverse. I remember a few times rolling in neutral out of a parking space *** I couldn't get it in reverse.

thanks for the reply, but yeah i did use the search function and did find some stuff....i just still had a question...

damn, this sucks...so if i dont know how to install this stuff from what i gather from the postings you have to pay like $1000? that doesn't seem like a good thing :(

Your reverse problems were probably caused by a faulty motor mount, like the firewall mount. i would check those out, or did you change them and that is why it shifts easier now?

Nah, it the problem just slowly went away, with wear, I suppose. This reverse problem was when the car was brand new; there hasn't been a problem with it for 8 years.

I think I'm one of the few people who have an NX or SE-R who bought it new. Anyone else?

my dad bought mine new and I have had it for 4 years now. I bought it off of him when I started college in 97-98.
