: Funny but Sad!!!!!
civicsRslow 06-26-2002, 03:01 PM Ok the other day my friends found a black SE-R for sale in a crap hole dealership and they told me about it so i went to look at it the next day. it had some little things wrong but it was still good an the guy said it had a burned up clutch but i was going to but in a new one anyway so i thought that i could get it cheaper. but heres the SAD part, i went to pop the hood to look at the engine and i about shit myself, there it was a F*$#ing GA16DE. someone put it in there after they blew the sr20.
But i was thinkin i could get it for 500 and put a SR20DET in it. its a 5 speed and i was wondering if the 1.6 and the 2.0 have the same tranny?
thanks
tommy 06-26-2002, 03:16 PM What the heck? Who would go to all the EXTRA expense of swapping a GA16 in for the SR20? That doesn't make any sense at all. Cause then they would have had to get a new tranny ECU, wiring harness, etc. to DOWNGRADE the car.
Are you sure it was an SE-R? Some SE's can look awfully similar. And no, the GA and SR use different trannies.
Toolapcfan 06-26-2002, 03:33 PM That doesn't make any sense at all. It was probably an SE, same interior, gauge cluster with a tach, not sure about 4 wheel discs on the SE, doubt it. It wouldn't be hard to screw with the badging to make it look like an SE-R that's for damn sure. Only way to know for sure would be to check the VIN I guess. Noboby in their right mind would go through all that work and expense to down swap like that. At least you would hope not.
Sr20kidD 06-26-2002, 03:43 PM No GA's came with 4 wheel disc. that about the only way to tell them apart from the exterior
se-r sam 06-26-2002, 03:51 PM Did it have a 130 mph speedo? Or a 150 mph?
eric96ser 06-26-2002, 04:08 PM Rear discs are optional with the ABS package on the 1.6 cars
Storm88000 06-26-2002, 04:26 PM Well like that Carfax commercial says, "people do some strange things to cars."
Mike sr20de 06-26-2002, 05:13 PM yeah, I was thinking about downsizing my SE-R to the 1.6L. that darn 2.0L just has too much power. I can't seem to keep the wheels from spinning?!?!:p
MauiBlueGride 06-26-2002, 06:05 PM I saw this same car actually when the owner was trying to sell it, so did someone else on the board.... I saw it with my own eyes...
SE-R wheels, SE-R gauge cluster, SE-R seats, 4 wheel disc, and a GA16DE crapply installed (had yellow paint markings on it like it was pulled from a junk yard). I laughed at the guy when he swore up and down it was the right engine for that car, I pulled my NX up to it and popped the hood. He told me since it was a '92 and my nx was a '93 that was the difference, I rolled my eyes... (also, VIN matched that of a SE-R)
Right afterwards I found a clean SE-R, bought and sold it all in about a days time :-P Needed some extra cash for my new house!

eric96ser 06-26-2002, 07:42 PM Some riceboy on here did the same thing. He had a 1.6 car with a godawful bodykit, and took an SR20 out of a running SE-R and swapped motors with both cars. Some people just don't deserve to drive SR20 cars :(
shumax 06-26-2002, 08:17 PM I drove that car about a month ago. I met the guy just over the line in Covington, Ky while I was on business in Cincy. The car was in decent shape. I was getting pumped. Then I popped the hood and about puked. The 1.6 was in this car that had all the SE-R items--rear discs, fogs, wheels...everything. How strange.

civicsRslow 06-27-2002, 02:16 PM yeah i even looked at the inner door where the vin # and stuff is and it said SR20DE but the hell if it was. and it did have that yellow stuff on the engine to.
and right before i poped the hood my friend said, " that would be funny if someone did a engine swap from a 2.0 to a 1.6" that bastard.
The car is at Metro Used Cars in cincinnati if anyone wants to look at it.
ihateloops 06-28-2002, 01:43 AM yeah, when i was looking to buy my se-r someone emailed me talking about selling me their "former" se-r. might be the same car.
ThomasSr20 06-28-2002, 02:22 AM I don't think he swap the GA16 in there, maybe the last owner just brough some Se-r wheels on it so it looks like the Real Se-r.

well i am almost doing just that. my car is badged SE on the rear and my underhood catalyst sticker is for the GA16DE. but i wont go as far as really swapping the engines. then there is no point.
especse_r 06-28-2002, 06:05 AM I see this kind of shit every day on ebay :D
