Well, I've been out of town for a week and a half and away from any computers. It's amazing what went on while I was gone...

Before leaving, I spent two weeks and $800 getting my AC fixed (new comp, dryer, lines). It worked great until today, 200 miles into the 500 mile trip home in 90 degree weather. Oh, the humanity...

First the AC quit blowing cold air, then we smelled a burning something, then saw smoke. Pulled into a gas station, popped hood, smoke coming from (brand freaking new) compressor. Looked for garage, amid the sound/smell of a failed bearing; mechanic said we could drive home, we'd just be hot. I was really freaked that something else was hurt, the noise was so bad.

Got home OK, car spent less than ten minutes parked with motor off while we unloaded, and the bearing siezed for good in that time. When I tried to start it to park on the street it threw the belt. I hope it'll make it three blocks to the mechanic on the battery, 'cause I ain't got no alternator right now. With any luck he can have it fixed before I have to go back to work Monday.

The parts and labor are warrantied, so there should be no additional cost to me to repair it (AGAIN) but damn this is frustrating.

Sorry, just had to vent

Go grab you a non ac car belt and slap it on there in the time being. Better to drive with the 2/60 ac instead of no car...
