Ahh man, that really blows! Happened to me about a year ago :squint: Eitherway, i don't suggest riding w/o 5th for too long at all. With our close ratio, riding in 4th WILL put that extra wear on the engine that none of us want. I did it for a pretty good min. and ended up spinning a rod bearing. Get that swapped out!!! Bright side = reason to go vvl :biggthump

Why don't you buy the 5 gear kit from Mossy or Courtesy Nissan (i'm not sure if Greg V is selling it)? I'm sure Lance knows how to rebuild gearboxes, and this way you'll have a semi-fresh box with no 5 gear worries for a long time.

I drove from NJ to FL with 4 gears (started the trip in NYC with 5). I reached FL with no problems what so ever. I even drove it around for about 6 months after that with 4 gear (the only other box I had was a sr16 and I didn't want to put that in with the de).

Are the gear ratios the same on an SR16 tranny as the USDM trannies?

nope
How are the gears diff.? Longer? similar to B15/P11?
I really like the short gears for DD , but it woulda been nicer if Nissan had thought out the highway driving when making trannys.

I had mine fixed about 3 - 4 months ago by a guy Named Kevin in Ft. Lauderdale of 441 south of griffin I believe. I still use the B13 tranny case, but have b14 internals, so no more 5th gear pop out. Tranny, swap and internal work, new clutch kit with new fluids for about $600. Been good ever since.
eewww to much doe for me to spend
