if i mark the original position of my distributor could i just experiment with my timing, and put it back to the original position if things dont go well?

dont do it, the distributor has 2 bolts to secure it. even though you mark the top, what happens with the bottom slips out of place? guess what, your engines timing is not properly adjusted. I guess other cars would be "ok" such as hondas where theres only 1 bolt and a pivot.

i thought both the top and bottom slots were suppose to move around the bolts securing it...only the top ?....ehhh im out of date.

actualy dont think the bottom bolt is sloted. but its not a great idea cause if you cant tell detonation by ear you will end up killing your car.

Do yourself a favor. Go buy a timing light. They're like $20. You'll be surprised how much use you'll get out of it. Especially if you have friends that are into cars. Repeat after me. "The more tools you own, the better." Anyone that's wanting to do things to there cars should own tools. Simple as that.

hmm, i tried to find one for $20 with no avail, but i picked one up for $30 at pep boys, nothing fancy, works perfectly fine, and the timing mod is something even a dummy like me was able to do myself :)

working in a different country really sucks sometimes...auto parts stores here dont carry timing lights...only the dealers have them...
i have to special order a freaking timing light !!!!!
BTW i love tools :D

but just to know, which way do i turn the distro for + and -...what does detonation sound like by ear...like backfiring ?
