Hey Cali peeps, I'm in a little bind. I was wondering if I can get a little advise? I've been soaking up everything there is to read about the VE here on the Forum. I'm pretty much sold on it, However as we all know, California is not the place for us enthusiasts.

So, my question is...those of you who have VE's was it worth it? how hard is it to smog? *cough* special smog? I've heard that someone local passed Cali emissions with the swap...

Basically, I just need a little help making up my mind...all comments are welcome...

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the input :biggthump I so want to go VE but the smog issue is def putting a damper on the fun factor. How strict is it up Norh?

Not very strict:rolleyes: Just have to know people:D .

Seriously ***, if you search on the forum you can find some VE owners pass with ease. Im sure if you have a 2.25" exhaust with a cat and proper muffler you can pass. I have heard that the VE engines are relativity clean motors.

How would a VE pass visual inspection? or are the smog workers dumb enough not to realize it's not the original motor?

I don't know of some off hand but I'm sure I can find one :D

No smog equipment, but I heard that the last VE guy that passed his visual was due to the technician overlooking that part of the process ;)

^^^Anything in particular you didn't like...Not enough "seat of the pants"? just curious :D I was thinking boost b/c it would be much easier to pull out instead of a whole damn motor...

its just not the same bro. with boost you feel instant power. with vvl, it feels like a de with alot of mods. dont get me wrong, im not hating on it. I just got bit by the BOOST bug. VVL aint for me, you might want to get in contact with illest bean and kyoshoboy. they have both boost and vvl experiences.

well im happy with my vvl right now,it dont give me any problems since i put it in my car.
powerwise its really good for an stock NA but of course u cant compare it with boost but power is there when u need it.
but sometimes i miss boost .hehehhe

ive been in 340whp 300 ft.tq turbo setup and i didnt regret to go VVL,i would do it if i were u.

and i dont think im goin boost again, maybe someday.
