I've had my B13 VE out to the drag strip a few times before and have been more than pleased with the results. First time out in March I managed a best of 14.50@97, second time in May I went 14.44@100, both on street tires. The only changes made between the two were an exhaust dump along with a better tuned AFR. All of those runs were made on street tires averaging 2.2 60 foots. Honestly, I was still driving the thing like it was turbo and using way too much clutch, but the MPH gave me plenty of hope.

Last time out in July I decided to give a set of 20"x8" slicks mounted on SE-R wheels a try. It was my first time ever using slicks and it felt so much better than street tires. Unfortunately the track was packed and I only managed to get two runs total and one of those I missed 2nd gear. I ended up running a 14.136@98.38 MPH with a 2.001 60'. No changes from the previous outing except for the slicks.

So yesterday I headed out with hopes of breaking into the 13's so I can finally move to the next step and install the N1 cams I've had laying around for a few months. Here is a break down of the setup from yesterday.

B13 with full interior, the only thing missing is the AC and a spare tire
SR20VE
SR16VE trans
SSAC Header
WAI w/ BPI velocity stack (runs 1-3, custom headlight ram air for 4 & 5)
Exhaust dump at the cat (runs 2-5; HKS 60mm on run 1)
Calum ECU with the 16VE timing map and a street tuned AFR
N60 MAF
VVL on @ 5,000 RPMs
20" X 8" slicks on B13 SE-R wheels (15psi runs 1-4, 13psi run 5)
Hyperco/AGX suspension

Run #1
60': 2.002
1/8: 8.958
MPH: 77.69
1/4: 13.953
MPH: 100.03
Launch ~5,400

Run #2
60': 1.966
1/8: 8.885
MPH: 78.06
1/4: 13.854
MPH: 100.23
Launch ~5,800

Run #3
60': 2.160
1/8: 9.097
MPH: 78.11
1/4: 14.062
MPH: 100.37
Launch ?, No datalog

Run #4
60': 1.874
1/8: 8.721
MPH: 79.30
1/4: 13.658
MPH: 100.70
Launch ~6,200

Run #5
60': 1.952
1/8: 8.878
MPH: 78.29
1/4: 13.863
MPH: 99.64
Launch ~5,750

I must say I left more than happy. The first run of the day I accomplished my goal of running a 13. Besides that I really only had one "bad" pass, #3, I started drifting at the line a bit and ended up riding the clutch out hence the 2.1 60'. My worst pass of the day was still better than my previous best.

I was data logging using an LM-1 with TPS and RPM input which really gives some great feedback. I can see where I was launching, how quickly I was getting into the throttle, shift points and of course AFR. I'll try to get a few of those logs up soon and comment on each of them along with the time slips. I've also decided that I need a two-step, aiming for a launch point, looking back and forth between the tach and the tree and trying to modulate the pedal just isn't working.

Sorry for the book and thanks for reading!

Summary: 13.658 @ 100.70

Here is a couple of the data logs from the LM-1.

Run #2

On the street this tune is closer to 13.0.

Run #4

You can see that the ram air intake was really leaning out the mixture compared to the regular WAI with filter. On run #5 the AFR drifted up to 13.3 and lost a little MPH, I'm going to add a little more fuel for next time. Also you can see how I got into full throttle much faster (the red line is TPS) on the launch.

Still have a few hundred RPMs to work with on the 16VE trans and 20's.

Finally someone putting a VE to good use, nice work Jonathon. 12's all the sudden seem more than obtainable.

I was down there and saw his runs. I am very impressed. I should have asked for a ride in it. Either way good job and thanks again for the tranny parts.

I have a quick question. How are you launching from 6,200 on slicks and not breaking anything? I was launching from 3,500 on street tires and I broke my axle. What are you doing to get a good launch? Anyones input on launching would be great.

bad ass time on a basically stock motor. n1 cams and them chuck headers and a good tune is going to get you into the 12's for sureeeee.

Slicks and street tires are very different. I was launching around 5,000 rpms on the street tires and riding the clutch a lot more. You also want to preload the drive train as much as possible.

Very damn cool man. Shows you what a good short time does to ET's. I went 13.9 on drag radials. I would love to see how I do on slicks.

Is this on stock 2.0 cams?

When you drop in those N1's your MPH will shoot up and the ET's will drop for sure.
