I finally got me a Z32 MAF, and the dood i bought it from said i should remove the screens for "better flow" call me crazy but that seems weird to me... i kinda think they would serve a purpose there.. any of you big wigs running them let me know what you did to yours, also if you did any other mods to it let me know please,, just tryin to take the right route ..show me the way turbo gods!!
P.S, anyone know the pin/wire configurations??

The screens introduce turbulence, which hurts flow. I don't know if the sensor element "needs" that turbulence or not, though. My guess is that the sensor element would work better without the screens, but I'm just guessing.

Removing the screens may lean out the mixture a little bit, depending on whether or not JWT flowed their samples with or without screens. If JWT flowed with the screens, and you ran yours without the screen, your MAF sensor would indeed flow better and possibly make a snitch more power. This would be because allowing more air into the engine, but the ECU (being calibrated for "with screens") wouldn't be adding more fuel. Slightly leaner, slightly more power.

You can find several fine examples of the wiring at TwinTurbo.net in the Tech forum.

The screen was put there so nothing hits the metering device and also so that if it does brake off, your motor will not suck down unwanted pcs. If you do want better flow you can remove the screen but I see no need to if you are not making any more than 450hp to the wheels.

Thats kind of what i figured Andreas! that metering probe looks so damn sensitive.... i would imagine any small debris could snap that tiny little probe.. How bad do you think it would impede me from going higher than 450whp and do you know how JWT tunes for these, w/ or w/out the screens? ThaNX!

The tuning of the MAF has nothing to do with the screen. It only has to do with the voltage across the MAF wire.

...but having the screens or not would affect the CFM-to-Voltage ratio if the screens were an obstruction to flow.

Im gonna leave em on.. after all nissan made it that way...soo lets ee how it goes..

if it aint broke dont fix (modify) it!

plus i honestly cant see those thin screens causing that much disruption to change the V drop across that probe....

although if someone can show me written proof otherwise...i may consider it,,,,otherwise, they stay!!
