I dont know if anyone has ever bothered with disassembling a B13 transmission. I know Coalition did a B15 trans, and its somewhat similar. I was "donated" a cracked transmission from fellow forum member Gee805 from when he cracked his trans at the line at the local dragstrip:eek: I had a spare tranny at my parents house with a blown LSD. So I took apart his transmission to steal his LSD and swap it into my otherwise good transmission. Disassembly is rather easy and should not take more than an hour to complete.

Tools needed:
10mm socket
12mm socket
snap ring pliers
a few flat head screwdrivers

First and foremost, we have the specimen..

Remove the top cover using a 10mm socket

Once the cover is removed, you will notice a snap ring that needs to be removed

We can now proceed to remove the 12mm bolts surrounding the bellhousing

The bellhousing is now ready to be separated, and this is what you will see. First thing, is to remove that rod that goes through the

Then remove the rod which holds the selector forks. It will pull right off, but be careful as there is a spring at the bottom that you dont want to lose.
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46/gEE805/alberts%20stuff/gearstack2.jpg

Now, remove the gear selector mechanism held in place by three 10mm bolts
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46/gEE805/alberts%20stuff/closeupbolts.jpg

Next step is to remove the 3 bolt bracket located beneath the gear stack attached to the input shaft.
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a46/gEE805/alberts%20stuff/gearstack.jpg

Once the three last bolts are removed, the gear stacks are ready to be removed simultaneously. Be careful with this because you dont want to damage any of the bearings and the rubber seal located on the bellhousing which seals the input shaft.

Now you will see this! The stock VLSD unit is just chillin there not attached to anything. Removing it is the easiest thing evar!!1!

This is the working LSD unit out of the cracked donor transmission that will be swapped over to my transmission.

Reassembly is pretty much the exact opposite of the disassembly.

This is a good thing for those of you who have a crap load of spare trannies laying around with miscellaneous problems. You can essentially build a good transmission out other busted ones. Its nice to have it as a spare just incase.
I know this write up isnt all that great, but i hope it somewhat helps anyone who is going to attempt to repair their own transmission

Yea the B13 SR transmssion is quite easy to work with, i've done quite a few 5th gear fixes on them and I been able to drop the transmission take it apart repair the 5th gear pop out with new parts and reasemble the transmission within 2 hours and then let the RTV cure over night before putting GL-4 gear fluid back in it. Good lil write up.

Just to add to this great write-up, the gear stack that terminates under the top cover has the large snap ring underneath can need a little coaxing to let the snap ring seat back in its groove (particularly if you have the transmission sitting as in the photos; two possible solutions are to:

After bolting up the main body to the bellhousing and allowing the RTV to set up, turn the transmission on it's side, on a slight incline, to allow the stack to slide to the front cover, then pop the snap ring in; or

Use a CAREFULLY wrapped flat blade screwdriver to lift the stack via the bearing to allow the snap ring to seat.

Thanks to the author for taking the time to get the info and pics out there!

thanks for the writeup man, good to know those gear stacks pull out so easily on the b13. i need to remove the cable speed sensor on my spare tranny so I can put my electric speedo in place of it. I'm thinking once the final drive assembly is out, the cable speed sensor should come out easily, since the speedo drive gear is on that assembly. I may addend that info to your writeup, or make another writeup for those interested in swapping speed sensors.

well it turns out there is no real need for a writeup for swapping speed sensors. If you cannot pull the speed sensors out with a vice grips, then you need to disassemble the transmission to get them out. Just follow the above instructions, then after the final drive assembly is out, the speed sensor will be in plain view. I used a long piece of metal and a 6lb. drill hammer to tap them out from the inside (this was necessary with both trannys that i had, the speed sensors were just in too tight).

Don't forget!!!!

Put RTV around the edges for a seal.

Note - on the fourth picture down (above), it's the large snap ring that goes around the inside edge of the case (down in the groove), not the smaller (but easily visible) snap ring that sits on top of the mainshaft rear bearing that needs to be removed before the case will come off.

What do you do if the case doesn;t want to pull back off the bellhousing? Mine is stuck on, seems like the old RTV is holding it on..

Rubber mallet - careful tapping.

Did that but used a piece of thin sheetmetal to work my way around teh edges to cut through all the rtv first. Slow and easy got it done.

Please repost pics. I am in the process of redoing the 5th gear pop out with the service kit from Courtesy Parts.

Sorry guys, pics were hosted on a friends photobucket account and he changed the folders on me. I relinked them

Feel free to PM or post here with questions you might have.. I have disassembled and rebuilt 3 or 4 transmissions by now so im pretty good at it i guess!
