I was thinking of picking up the 195/60/14 Azenis for my Classic wheels and using them for the summer. Any of you people use these tires on the street with any success? How has the tread life been? Any problems? Is there another tire I can use with equal results/price?

Thanks, Steve

I run 205/50/15 azenis as daily drivers and i race pretty much every night... Only problem i have with these tires is that if you drive in the rain you have to do it VERY carefully... and as far as racing these tires on the street.. THE BEST you can launch from 5500 with very little wheel spin and your gone.. now you can only do that maybe 10 times before the tires get umm not so sticky i say the tire life SUCKS but there cheap and well worth it,,, right now i run Azenis up front and ZE-502 in the back.. i love this combo and it's worked well for me so far the azenis i have on right now i've had for about 2months and there is like 45% left but i do race every night and i drive the car about 50 miles a day

I have them on my SE-R. I have had them about 3 weeks or so. They look the same as the day I put them on the first time. I drive on them pretty hard. I have driven the car in the rain alot recently(damn rain) and I have had no problems. I love them!!:D

Take it easy in the rain. Especially in standing water.

Had mine a few months now, and they seem to be holding up well. They aren't real quiet, and they grab pebbles and fling them up into the fender wells, but stick like crazy, for a street tire. Auto-x is hard on them though. I imagine I will need a new set by next season.

Hehehe, i just got back from some races today, and i was using the Azenis. Every car i raced, i kill them out of the hole. I was launching at 4,000Rpm and the car just spin a little then goes.

Very good street tires for racing.

I suggest u find some stocks B14 wheel and use the Azenis on the Se-r rims 205/50/15.

i agree with Ryan about the pic...

i also run azenis on the street 205/50/15 and ive had them for about a month now, shits grip like no other(cornering and even those 4k launches like someone else mentioned)

they also still look like new, im surprised my wear isnt worse because i drive close to 50 miles everyday but at the end of the season i will be junking these and buying new ones for next summer, never had a better tire!

I use the 195/60/14 as my Street tyre and my Rain tyre for AutoX events.

On the street they are fine, I can't hear any tyre noise over my exhaust and intake, so that doesn't bother me.

At $50 each delivered, if you have to buy a new set every year I don't think it's a big deal.

Anyway, I've had them on for about 3K and an AutoX in the Rain and they don't seem to be showing any wear at all.

I use the 205/50/15 as my AutoX only tyres and between myself and my co-driver they are down to only having one more event on them. After next weekend I will be mounting the second set for this season. They wore pretty hard on my stock suspension, but aren't wearing as badly now that I have my GC and some camber dialed in.

As far as how they handle in the rain, we drove through a MONSOON on the way to the Rome National Tour and the tyres weren't a problem, I couldn't drive any faster, cause I couldn't see where I was going it was raining so hard.

How about road noise? Are these things a lot quieter than the Kumho 712s?

I must cast a vote for them not being so good on the street.

They roar a bit,
They are not fantastic in the rain (Avoid standing water at ALL cost),
They wear pretty quickly,
And they are heavy as shit, slowing your acceleration,
I've also noticed the steering response is not as crisp as other tires I've used (RE71, AVS intermediate)

They do, however, have fantastic grip. These things are basically race tires that Falken somehow got a treadwear of 200 on. 200 treadwear my ass. Those things have R-compound levels of grip.

But if I were to get the best tire for us for street use, I'd look at the Potenza S0-3. Lighter, better in the rain, the right size (the 15" Azenis is a touch taller than stock), no rubbing issues, not much more expensive than Azenis', and *rocks nads* in the wet.

A BIT? Are you kidding? I used to repeatedly look in my rearview for a 4wd truck following me :D . I wouldn't trade them for anything in the world, though.

Ive been using mine for a month now.

I drive about 50miles a day also.

They have survived six 20 minute lapping sessions in St-eustach.
1 3 1/2 hour lapping day at Shannonville's Long track.

And they seem to be wearing pretty good. No illusions though, these will be done at the end of summer.

I did go to the country this weekend, and had to go through 400 meters of gravel. *hint* (they dont like that very much)

Oh and I second the heavy statement. In the curves I AM much faster, but in a straight line... Ive lost considerable acceleration, they are phat and heavy.

Thanks guys, the comments are greatly appreciated. I never thought this thread would get such response. Perhaps I should clarify, I am looking for the best summer tire I can get within the stock 14" wheel size. Straight line acceleration is not an issue seeing as how the tires will be supporting boost :D I am just looking for a good (cheap) grippy tire to use for the summer only. Are the Azenis my best bet, or do I go for something else? I've only put 4,000 miles on my car since Aug of 2001, so I don't really drive that much.

Yep, the azenis are a good choice for your usage.

Just remember to keep some steelies with shit tires if you want to do some burn outs on boost :D

Your best choices in 14" size are Dunlop SP Sport 8000s and Toyo T1-S in 195/55/14, and the Azenis'. The Falkens are by far the cheapest, but like I said if noise and wet weather ability are in your criteria, might want to give the Dunlops or Toyos a look.
