Guys--

Here's some shots from the last couple autocrosses. Figured some new pics would be a good thing to have. Hope you like them. :)

OMG Greg, that first pic is poster quality (lemme guess RE-71s). What are the specs on that 'business' cam?
Could ya walk us thru the posting procedure. Ya know; raw image resolution, transfer protocol, pic manipulation software, adjustments, filters and the such.
I noticed the file size is way reasonable 44K and even w/ my 2Mpixel Canon/Ad Photoshop i haven't come close w/ much bigger files. Or is the secret the high res the original image?

Paul--

It's no secret I made my living as a freelance photographer 'in my previous life'. Still do, in a much smaller way.

Those four pics were all taken with a Nikon D-1 digital SLR ( www.nikonusa.com I do believe ). It is an SLR-bodied camera, meaning I can change the lenses just like any higher-end 35mm film camera.

I'm not sure of the megapixel file size, but I can tell you this: In it's 'medium' setting, the files are 18" x 27" in size, but at only 72dpi, and occupy about 1.1mb of space. The 340mb IBM compact flash card holds about 300 images in that mode. For my newspaper, those images are then sized to 9" x 10.5" max, but at 250dpi. I have made 34" x 44" prints from one of those files, and it's beautiful.

As for the sizing and such: Using Photoshop, those images were each sized at 600 pixels wide at 72dpi. The trick is to save them as jpegs, on '6' quality (medium), with the baseline as 'normal' or 'standardized'. All that info can be found when you do the 'Save As' command.

As for secrets, you may want to play around with the Unsharp Mask filter in Photoshop, Paul. It can make good photos look spectacular, if used with some restraint. Also, keep in mind that the 'secret' to these images is the fine Nikon lenses we use. Most were taken with an 80-200mm f/2.8 zoom lens. Which, on the D-1 camera, is equivalent to a 120-300mm zoom lens due to the 1.5x factor. In short: The lenses kick ass.

Hope this clears things up, from one shutterbug to another. :)

Nice pics, Greg!

What's with the NX wheels? Did you finally go to AD22VFs to deal with the turbo?

Kent--

I do have some AD22 brakes, but they're not on yet. Yet. ;)

The NX wheels had BFG Comp T/A R1 sticky race tires on them, an belong to Jacen99se here on the forum. I was, um, demo-ing them that day. :)

Looks great Greg. Have you been to the strip since installing the T28? I'm still trying to convince myself to go the same route.

I have a set of wheels and slicks (MTs) being shipped as we speak, Matt. If all goes well with those getting here.... I will run the car at the 1/4 mile strip on Sunday July 7.

T28s are awesome, and worth every penny, IMHO. Call Andreas and see if he can't get you a ride in a T28-equipped car. That would be the best way to find out if it's for you or not.
