I ran a lightened factory flywheel in my G20 before I installed the DET. I put about 60k miles on it with absolutely no issues. My shop used to charge me $50, but they upped it to $75.

How much did they remove? I heard 4 lbs. is safe.

I didn't bother to weigh it, but I'd imagine it was about that. I didn't give them a drawing, but when they got done it looked just like the drawing Bob Legere had up on the web at one time.

OK Here is what I am going to do. There is a pretty reliable race shop around here, Rick Smith's machine shop. Rick Smith is the crew Chief for Gary Alderman's NHRA car, and I will just explain to him that 4lbs. is safe to shave off. Only question is should I have him take it off of both sides or just 1 side. Or should I just leave it up to his experties?

He'll skim the face to resurface it and take weight off the back.

I would leave it up to him.

I think he meant the weight of a stock DE flywheel which I think is the neighborhood of 20 lbs.

FWIW I used to have a Roffe supplied lightened unit on my DE and felt little if any difference. I'm now running the Fidanaza 8 lb unit and feel a big difference. The effects of a lightened stocker is negligible at best.

I found an old 1991 G20 flywheel in a scrap yard for cheap and had it lightened by a local reliable shop.

I gave them the schematic and they followed it to a T. Stock it was about 20lbs, like 19.8lbs or something. he got it down to 14.5lbs using teh schematic.

According to him it will be just as strong as stock considering where he took the weight from.

Cant wait to install it, but Im probably going to look for an aftermarket pressure plate before I do that. And I'll buy a new B15 disc.

You do not loose torque, you loose stored inertia in the flywheel.
