: Fidanza Flywheel & AEM CAI impressions

I installed everything yesterday, the Fidanza 8lb flywheel, ACT clutch, and the AEM CAI in my 98 SE.

Flywheel: Besides the extra revviness I don't really notice much. Rev-matches are easier, car revs seemingly five times faster when in neutral, it gets to redline in no time.

Also the idle does NOT divebomb coming to stoplights or anything of the sort like Naji mentioned. It is the 8lb flywheel, it almost feels it could be lighter.

I did stall the car five times yesterday getting used to the clutch and flywheel combination. I noticed you need to rev it a little higher to get moving, I've put almost 200 miles on the car since yesterday, and I'm still getting used to it.

AEM CAI: Wow! What a difference. Can really feel a nice improvement around 4200 - 6500rpms. Oddly the engine sounds at 7000rpms as it did when I had my G20 ECU and took it to 7500rpms, if that makes sense. It is very strange, I'm not sure why.

Only downside was it was a BITCH to install. You can tell it was really made for the 94 SE-R like it says on the box. Some of the parts didn't line up, and AEM includes "battery relocation brackets" which I gave up on installing properly.

But overall, the car is running really well right now and is more fun to drive.

BTW I'll post some pics for the hell of it a little later.

Which ACT clutch combo are you using?

You will have to rev it higher to get the car moving, you've got that much less mass off the crank, so it's going to rev down faster overall and loose rpms faster when the clutch engages.

I don't get the battery problems with the CAI's. I have the largest battery you can fit in the tray and when I did my homemade CAI the battery wasn't a problem and from what I can tell from a lot of the CAI pics people have posted, the bend in my piping is a smoother transition than on their store bought units, some of them were damn near a 90, maybe like a 75 or an 80. I need to scan my pics and post them so ya'll can see. I suppose that could be due to differences between the b13 and b14 though, in regards to the tightness and whatnot. Like I've said before, even elongating the holes on the battery tray is easy enough to do and could give you at least and inch of movement to the left. I didn't even have to do that though.

The problem is the AEM CAI comes with these pretty long brackets attached to it on the lower B-pipe. That makes it difficult to install without moving the battery, not to mention alot harder to feed the pipe through the hole in the fender without scratching it.

The brackets will fit and move your battery over, but you have to flip them around. You should have one bracket that looks like "[" and one that's just a piece of metal, right? Put them on opposite sides of what the instructions tell you. Both screws on the brackets will not line up, just use the top ones and don;t worry about the bottom ones. Then you just have to move them around a little bit so you can line them up with the holes on the battery tray and the screw that holds the battery down. It sound weird but give it a try and once you see it it will make more sense. Send me an e-mail if you have any questions. If you look at the pics of my install you can see that my battery is moved about an inch towards the engine. Good luck

Martin

Does the flywheel introduce any funny or new noise at startup? Im thinking of this mod, but dont want any unwanted "new" rattles, metallic sounds or anything.

Not that I've noticed. Almost 220 miles on it and haven't heard a single new noise.

Hehe, i have the same setup as u

If u have regular tires on, launch at 3,300Rpm. Trust me on this, or els you gonna go through tires every months.

My check engline light came out when i install the flywheel, but when i gutted my CAT out, the engline light when away, and never been on since.

Hello, first post after comin all the way from Freshalloy.com (so Spec V oriented). Anywho...I was wondering at what stage of modifications do you guys/gals think one should consider the flywheel and/or clutch? I know the clutch obviously will need to be replaced when u start gettin some real power, but don't know if the flywheel would be a cool thing to do...saaaay, after intake, exhaust, and headers??

I constantly bounce around in my head when it comes to deciding what to purchase next for performance. BTW: I have a 2k1 Sentra SE w/ PP. And it's black. :) Black is faster right? Hell, If I could see some of your mod progression lists that would be great. Shall I open another thread?

Help is appreciated. Thanx.

Black is faster, just too bad it also FADES faster. I will never own a black car again. Sure it looks great when it's just washed and waxed, but that lasts a whole 10 minutes.

As far as mods, BTW, most people start with an intake and exhaust, then maybe a header, then cams, then pulleys, etc....
