: Timing Mod done

Just did the timing mod (set to 17 degrees) and I have to say it was the easiest thing I have ever done to my car. It looked to be set at about 13 degrees, so I gave it a pretty big bump. I was confused by how to set the timing, until I just hooked everything up and took a shot at it. It only takes about 10 minutes, when you know what to do.

I'm always skeptical of my SOTP dyno, as waxing always seems to add HP on it :p , but it really does seem to pull better.

I also noticed that one of the plug wires has chunk out of the insulation, so I guess I need to go ahead and replace them. Whick ones to get? I know the stock ones are the best, but what brand, and where? Will some NGK's from autozone be the same?

Nissan OEM is good. You can get them either at your local dealer or call Greg at Mossy Nissan.

Others like me have Magnecor wires. Good stuff that won't diminish performance, looks good, and should last forever.

That's what tripped me up at first. You can't see anything until you hook up the timing light and shine it at the pulley. Then you will see the timing marks. The pin just above the pulley is the indicator. The marks represent from left to right: -5, 0, 5, 10, 13-15, 20. The last one is 20, so you want to eyeball-it to about 17. Make sure you follow the instructions on SE-R.net or you'll never get it into timing mode. It really is easier than it sounds.

I'd stay away from Magnecors but that's just me. I had a set come completely apart, and had to use needle nose pliers to get them out of the spark plug hole.

As far as the timing goes. Welcome to the world of running only good gas!

Bummer, hope that doesn't happen to me. So far mine seem in very good shape after about 100,000 miles.

Tne best plug wires and plugs are the stock ones. That has been pretty well established. The best axle shafts and boots are also OEM. In general OEM parts are the best parts, even for racing.

So let me get this straight... You're telling me that the following list of OE parts are the best for racing?

Nissan brake pads
Bridgestone RE-71
Dunlop D40M2
Nissan DOT3 brake fluid
Nissan air filter
Goodyear Eagle RS-A

:D

(Yes, it's Monday!)

Hmm, as well as springs and struts, the cams, the exhaust manifold, the stock airbox, the stock muffler, the stock shifter, the sway bar etc.... ;)

i gotta disagree w/ there naji. mpg9999 gained whp w/ nology wires. i also doubt my stock exhaust manifold is better than my hs headers...;)
