What makes the first year SR20 motor so different than the rest of them? Beside the intake cam that everyone talks about. Just curious. Never really paid too much attention to the 91s.

'91-'93 are identical.

Intresting... I've always been told that the 91s are different.

As far as motors go, the '91 - '93 are the same. There were a few option differences between the '91 and '92. There were a lot of changes in '93, but none under the hood. '94 was a big change year for the motor.

So, what makes the 94s so different? You have to remember... I'm a 94+ kinda guy. Never owned a Classic! :(

The first geration Se-r's are OBD1, the 95 up are OBD 2. That is a big diefference to me.

Thats what I thought too. But -- Like I said -- I've been told different. Just trying to get to the bottom of it. Thats all.

head change. went from a high port to a low port on the intake. ports are phsycialy lower down on the head, moving the plenum and throtle body up to the top of the motor. then a slight, ever so slight change in intake cam profile.

95 major changes, cam got alot milder and odbII plus whole new chassis

That makes alot more sense. Thanks Bowlcut!

The 91s are the best simply because they haven't been laden down with the sissification all the other SE-Rs have. 91s never had available cruise control, had the best seats (as do 92s), and are the epitomy of manly SE-Rs. All other years have been sissified.

As a previous 93 classic owner, that is the best year by far. The seats are awesome, better support than the 91-92. The cruise rocks as does the tach placement which was moved on the '93. The '93 also has the better headlight adjustment setup and the motor is the same as the 91-92.

If you think cruise "rocks" then you are a victim of the sissification. Manly men don't need assistance to press a gas pedal. ;)

You're right, but a sixth gear would be nice! :D

When there is a squad car tailing you its nice to set it at the speed limit and concentrate on keeping straight. Its very easy to remove as well. But the gauge setup on the 93+ is far superior than the 91-92.

Purchase price also. I picked mine up for $950. Not paying much for a car makes you feel better about stripping it down and tearing it apart. It's the lightest chassis and the least expensive.

Right now I drive an '89 wrangler 5spd, my other vehicle is a chevy 1/2 ton pick up. Sorry but if you consider cruise as being sissy, then how do you explain driving a 4 cylinder econo box as being manly? (Don't get me wrong I loved my little '93 SER!)
My 1/2 ton chevy has cruise and also a TPI '91 350 Z28 motor and there is no way that just any sentra w/o cruise would be considered manlier. My '89 Jeep is just waiting for my '93 mustang 5.0L motor to be installed along w/ the rear dana 44 out of a Scout II. Get a truck than talk your sisifiaction crap.

Damn, what's next, you gonna whip it out?

Maybe I should've clarified, but some people have been hanging around SE-Rs and the SE-R people a lot longer than others (I'm not singling you out btw). 91 SE-Rs have always been known as the manliest of SE-Rs on the SE-R mailing list, of which I have been subscribed to for over 4 years. I was just alluding to that old-time joke, but you took it personally. Maybe you didn't notice my little winking face or maybe you want to prove your manliness to me. Either way...I was cracking a joke that many of the long-time SE-R owners may recognize. Lighten up, ok? ;)

Yes, lighten up. And when you do that, ask Antonio to show you his pretty front bumper on the '91. Oh, wait. '91 front bumpers suck.

Nevermind, Antonio.

I didn't take anything personnaly thats why I had the big smiley face at the start of the post. Maybe you didn't notice that? No need to lighten up, I have been on this board for years to, sold the SER over 1 year ago. ...I just find it amusing to call a classic manly. I love the classics and this board rocks as well, so no pantys in a bunch here. I will add that as far as cruise goes the classic has the best cruise of any cruise optioned car I have ever driven and can be set as low as 25mph! ...Sorry if I ruffled your feathers as that was not my intent.

Sorry I didn't add a smiley after my comment of sisification crap, but I don't know how to add a smiley other than the first one. Bottom line IMHO the 1993 Sentra SER is the best model year by far! I would hate for someone to have read this thread thinking the '91-'92 is supperior when at least in my opinion it is not. But as any classic SER goes these are one of the best sport compacts out there but manly they are not! (Except maybe the turbo ones like yours and others, thats way cool!!!)

You mean a 91 front bumper like this?

Yeah, I have to admit, it does kind of suck.
