: is it worth it??
sbd18 07-01-2002, 12:26 PM hi there...
i have been looking for a classic sentra se-r for some time now and i have a seller who is offering me a 1992 se-r with 111k miles on it, 5spd, ruby red, with all the options, Centerforce clutch, Eibach sportline springs, K&N cone filter, all new belts and hoses, complete tune-up and a new front axles...the pics he sent me showed that the car was taken cared of very nicely and it is in good shape...he is asking for $4800 and i was wondering if its worth it? i would love for any suggestions...thanks in advance!
:)
Serban 07-01-2002, 12:39 PM That price seems a little high. I did a price check on www.kbb.com, and with all the options, and rated at excellent condition, it shows the car is only worth $2,900. It may show differently in your zip code, but I think $4800 is definately asking too much.
NismoSER 07-01-2002, 01:09 PM That's way too much. He's probably trying to add in the price of the mods, but in this market nobody cares what mods they have.
Besides, if he's running sportlines with the stock struts, either they are blown or will blow very shortly.
If he's trying to pitch the car to you on the fact that it has been recently tuned up and the axles are new, well the car should be that way! Don't let them add that value on simply because he was taking care of the car the way he is supposed to.
Anyway, don't pay any more than 2,900 for it. If you find things wrong with it, subtract from 2,900 and work from there. If he's standing real hard on his price, just walk and let someone else get ripped on 4800. He's nuts if he thinks someone will pay even upwards of 3 grand.
sbd18 07-01-2002, 01:33 PM hi there...
thanks for your comments...i decided against it as i would have to travel almost 20 hours to get to that car...but i just got another offer from someone in new york...this time its a black 1993 se-r with 68k miles on it...he said its all stock except for tints, lowering springs, exhaust, cold air intake, polished valve cover and clutchmasters stage 3 clutch...he is asking for $4k...worth it?
sbd18 07-01-2002, 01:56 PM and to add to the above the guy says he has new stock struts and shocks with eibach springs...is that good or bad? i was wondering since u mentioned before that having springs on stock struts is bad...thanks for your help...its big investment for me and i dont wanna screw up...=)

hahah! stock shouldn't be anywhere near that car! :p
4K huh, that's really pushin it. Let's put i this way: no classic (short of a turbo'd one) is worth much more than 3500. I bought mine with 116K miles in decent condition for 2400 one year ago. I just recently bought a 93 NX2k with 122k miles for 2500, and last year my friend John (nismonx2000) bought his 92 NX2k with 63K miles for 3300.
Keep shopping, or haggle VERY aggressively with these cars you have mentioned. Good luck!
EDIT: stock struts don't hold up very well against lowering springs because they aren't stiff enough for them. Do a little research on the forum, and you'll find KYB AGX struts are the way to go.
