I just installed two JL Audio 6.5 components. I have a 4 channel amp pushing those and a 2 channel, 600 wattpusing my two 12's. Now everythign runs beautifuly, but wheni hook the left speaker up to them amp, but speakers just cut out once i pass a certain volume, the subs are still hiting, but the speakers jsut cut out and jump on and off every second or so. Does this mean i need a cap?

A cap will do nothing to help you. Regardless of the specific components, subs will always draw more power than midrange speakers. Thus, if a cap were the problem, you would bne having difficulties with the subs and not the highs. However, a cap is a good investment and helps the overall quality of your system, i recommend getting one. Now for the problem, Be careful to watch the omage of the speakers and amp that you are running. (i.e. if the amp is 4 ohm stable and you are running 2 ohm speakers, therin lies your problem.) Also, be sure that your amp has a GOOD ground. grind off any paint where the ground wire is secured to your chassis. An increase in volume is directly related to the increase in current being drawn by the amp. Therefore when you turn it up, more power is being drawn and a bad ground connection will not stand up to the demand of the amp. Try these suggested things and if the problem persists, post again and i will discuss other options in fixing your amp.

Either one of your speakers is blown badly, and at certain volumes the voice coil is creating a short, or you've got a short elsewhere.... Also, check for one of the speaker wires being grounded, thats what it sounds like to me...
As for a cap, I've never cared for them, I'd spend the money on a beefier alternator/wiring/battery before I even thought of a cap, its a bandaid for a more serious problem....
A lot of time (gee did I ever do this?) you'll pinch a speaker wire if your running them close to the door sill plates if they have screws there, take a look.
Finally, how did you wire the speakers at the amp? Can you fade left/right & front/back, or did you connect two speakers to two bridged channels on the amp, if so it may not be able to play in two ohm stereo (though I doubt it, if its a decent amp).
Best of luck.
