hey ya'll...im going to get my ac done (just charged and add some freon)...they guy told me there are two types of freon R12 and R134a and said that R12 is $49.99/lb and R134a is $29.99...so before I go in there I want to make sure he is charging me for the right stuff..the onlyproblem is that I don't know what kind our cars take so does anyone else know?
Mine is a 93 nx2000 just in case the year matters.
Thanks in advance

R134A didn't become standard in cars until 1994 or 1995. You should still have R12 in there unless your car was converted.

Yup, R12 is bleedin pricey. Sounds about right price wise. I have seen it for a bit less, but not by much. If only every one knew how toxic the new stuff is. Makes R12 look like lemonade. This is no joke. It might not be bad for the Ozone Layer (no one really knows yet), but it has to be handled with care otherwise.

Sooo... I just let all of mine spew all over the place when I removed my A/C. My hair is falling out, now. You think that's what caused it?:p

R12 at Victory Nissan is about 30/lb, but i work there and thats my cost. I think TECHNICALLY they are supposed to be converting all R12 systems to R134 since the R12 is so harmful to the environment. BUT. i have yet to see any of the techs at Victory do a conversion, which is a kit consisting of the new freon and a new drier, a few new lines, etc. but the R12 is definately the way to go...it cools, i think like, 30% better than r134a. hope that helps a little....but that R12 price up there looks a little steep...look around a little man...or ill buy it for you and ship it to you cheaper than that...lol....
