Any body have some ideas for mounting gauges in the the dash in place of that little utility bin? I found an extra bin, but I need a plan of attack before I start cutting it up. Anybody done this, or have a idea of how to approach it?

Thanks

A lot of guys put the radio down there and put the guages in the radio slot.

Excuse my ignorance, but whats the point of the gauges? And what do they show? Is it basically just a looks thing?

To tell the time. Ambient Temperature and Atmospheric pressure and humidity. Ooh wait, that the one in my basement.

Just jokes. To read engine controls.

I want to put in a voltage gauge and an oil pressure gauge.
Voltage for the rally lights and other crap I need to put on and oil pressure because the last time I bashed in my oil pan (and apparently sealed of part of the oil pickup) the engine let go 500 miles later without the oil light ever coming on.

The guages are used to Monitor things that are going on in the motor. Guages that are not installed in the car from the factory.

Hmmm Well I have been thinking about getting a 3 gauge kit but I already have a CD player in the top dash place.
The only one I have open is the lower one. I dont know how it would look down there. Any ideas anyone?

There is a three gauge pod group buy going on right now for the NXs. This will attach directly to your A-pillar and, hopefully, fit perfectly. Check it out.

This turned out to be a pretty simple project.

I bought an extra utility bin from the junk yard and cut out squares from the top and bottom on the front edge so the gauges can fit.

front view:

|___ __ ___|

I just cut them deep enough so that I have room slide the gauges in and screw in the holder.

I was going to get some black ABS fascia from a stereo installation place nearby, but it was late, so I went to the hardware store and bound a cement mixing bin that had the right color and grain. I cut out the fascia and the holes for the gauges and epoxied it onto the bin. The stuff was thin enough to cut with a scissors, so I got a good clean cut.
The stock bin is set back a little bit from the heater and cup holder, so with the fascia on, it lines up perfectly. If it isn't flush, it would be easy to grind a little off of the bin's mounting brackets.

So, Then I mounted the gauges and it all slid in and mounted up perfectly! Now I just need to hook up the gauges and I can put my car back together.

Here's mine. You can buy a faceplate from Nissan for cars that never came with a radio and cut the holes for the gauges.

Hey I want to put a 3 Gauge set in the bottem slot too.
Could you post some pics of them installed?

Looks good!

I wanted the gauges in the bin slot though so I could keep the standard stereo mounts.

In my opinion they would be too low to be functional. The position I have them I just glance to the right a bit and I see them perfectly.

Could anyone tell me how to get the lower slot on the dash under the air controls out so I can put some Gauges in there?
How do you remove the bin thing?

You have to remove the hole center dash piece and you'll see screws holding the piece in.

Hey Im looking for the 3 gauges that will fit in the bottem bin and look good for the size.
Has anyone put gauges there and if so where can I get some good ones that will fit in that spot?

i think you sould be able to fit 3 2 1/16'' guages in the bottom bin...get your guages from Autometer (you can get them @ Lordco)

if you're looking for a 3 guage pod...there's a group buy happening for an a-pillar 3 pod custom made for our car. i think you'll have an easier time looking at guages on the a-pillar than on the bottom bin. besides, you're gonna lose a storage bin (for cd's and stuff) if you fill the bin.

check out Autometer

check out the group buy for a-pillar 3 pod
