I have a friend who flips two-fowdies (240sx for the rest of y'all), and has been around KA's for quite some time, and occasionally, the SR. He suggested I remove the oil catch reservoir that sits in front of my motor, mounted just below the valve cover (two little black metal boxes with a few tubes coming out, and a vacuum actuator), and plug the EGR. I've taken some time to inspect where these hoses go, and for the most part, it looks like a complicated PCV system. The EGR just circles back around to the intake. I know that it's mostly for emissions, but also for fuel/air mixture proportioning, in a small way. He told me he's done it to some of his cars in the past, and they pass emissions and run better. It would get rid of much of the tubing and crap that I have to remove every time I remove the valve cover.

1. Should I attempt this at all?
2. Any good pointers, if yes?
3. Will my car run better?
4. Will it pass emissions?

I'll be nice and anwser your question, usually people wont anwser this becasue it can be anwsered by searching. But when i was new to the SR20 scene and cars in general i asked the same question.

1. yes, it cleans the engine bay up allot, the EGR system gets cloged and causes a number of prolbems. my car runs better becsue i took it all off, BUT leave the oil catch can on, its there for a reason, your friend saying to take it off just shows that he talks out of his ass possibly, so dont take to heart every thing he says

2. just take your time, makes some nice block off plates and seal them with some gasket maker, or you can buy a set from some where, search for it its around here some where.....make sure you hook up or block off any vaccume lines you mess with.

3. Possibly, my car did but my car has 207,000 miles on the orginal engine. Also check your ACC valve, clean it, and put it back on, put a new PCV valve on, and do the noram full tune up.

4. probly not, im unsure, West Vrigina doent even check, so maby some one else will post up.

1 if its not causing any problems no. I only removed the stuff because I installed a header and the fittings for were completly rusted

2 your going to need threaded plugs for your exhaust manifold, and block off plates for the intake. have fun with the vacuum lines

3 mine didn't it just weighed a few pounds less, and has a cleaner engine bay

4 I passed PA emmissions with egr and aiv removed the guy had to run it two times though.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. I also know of people cutting the EGR tube, crimping what's left and welding it shut on the manifold, which I might likely do.

Get the nissport egr removal kit. I ordered mine and couldnt be happier.

just pay the guy 20 bucks and put your mom's minivan on the dynomometer. Yay for OBD1

I recently threw a code for my egr system malfunction, will the egr removal kit get rid of my SES light? I have a '96 200sx se-r with 70k on it....

nice kit for the lowports..just run to radio shack afterwards and get a 68ohm resistor for the temp sensor

egr does not control air'/fuel

it can change it however because u are putting inert gas into the cylinder instead of air.

if your egr is functioning properly it will NOT hinder performace.

1: do it, it makes it look so much cleaner!
2: its pretty straight forward
3: if ur EGR is functioning properly all performance gains will be in your head
4: it should still pass emissions
