Doing what I can to shave some pounds on my NX. I am currently removing all the sound deadening, from everywhere in the car. I figure I've shaved about 30-40lbs so far (best guess... my bucket got wet, so I can't tell).

Up at the front of the car, against the firewall, there is some hard plastic-like stuff that looks molded to conform to the curves of the car, but crumples to pieces to the touch, more or less. What is that stuff. It doesn't really matter that much since it's all gone now:cool: , but I was just curious.

What else have you guys done to shave weight? I'm gonna 86 the A/C when I get some money for the kit, and mabe the P/S. The seats seem awfully heavy. Any advice on seat lightening?

The cruise control parts weigh a ton. Take them out, and give then to me. :p

Hey I didn't think you needed a kit to remove the a/c. I didn't. I thought it was only the P/S. Does anyone know where to get the one for p/s and how much it costs.

I'm having trouble finding info on A/C removal, but I know it's out there. I know I need a 33 3/4" 6 rib belt, but I'm not sure what all to remove. I'm still not sure wether I should to do it or not.

I removed all the hoses first, they all unscrew. Then I unbolted the compressor and its mounting bracket. Then I took out the radiator thing in front of the radiator(forgot what its called). It all unbolts pretty easily. The only problem I had was getting the alt. bolted back up. I went and bought a new belt for the car with no A/C. It was so short that it was hard to get the belt back on with the alt bolted up. I got it though. Not hard at all realy, noticed that it revs easier, not sure about any hp or anything like that though.

What about the stuff under the dash? How long did it take you?

You have to remove the dash itself to get to those parts. I wouldn't worry about those. The condensor is 8lbs, the bracket holding the compressor to the block is 11lbs, the compressor is about 15lbs. My Sentra weights 2420 without the parts mentioned above, plus the lines under the hood themselves.

So, what do you think? Should I go for it? I never use the A/C but I'm afraid to screw something up.

Right now I'm thinking, "what the heck". I can always put it back on, right? (r12 is gonna cost a ton though)

What do I need to be careful of when I do this? Keep in mind I'm doing this under a shade tree, as I don't have a garage.

I would do it , wait I already did. Like he said leave the stuff in the dash. It would not be worth it. The main reason I liked it was not the weight reduction, but the space freed up. Mainly that damn hose in front of the dipstick, that thing pissed me off alot. I must add however that my A/C did NOT work. The small line that runs along top of the radiator got smashed somehow and all the coolant leaked out. But I just like the look of nothing but motor under the hood. No extra shit. Hey I just realized that we are all in TN. Ok I'll shut up now.

Take the A/C out.!!!!
I would but I use it too much here in FLORIDA.
Im on a diet as well.
I trimmed my trunk and its flimsy as a pancake now but alot lighter. the sound deadening stuff is out along with all interior panels. I still have the dash but I took off the glove box. Also under the steering wheel is some kind of HEAVY brace for the dash. I took that off too. Now Im just Dremeling little things that I see are not needed.

when I get my b13, I am going to GUT it, and I will weigh it for you guys and see how much weight I can take off the car. it is not going to be pretty though. no radio, door panels, ect, ect. just glass, seats (front) and body, steering wheel, and everything else necessary. it shall be fun :)

I gotta leave my interior to stay in STS (auto-x). My wife was complaining about how loud the car is inside now... good thing it's not her's. ;)

Figgy - I've been trying to look at ways to dremel n' drill out peices to make them lighter, too. I'm also looking at the seats and they seem unnecessarily heavy. Any idea on how to lighten them?

Aaron - What part of TN are you?

A/C is now just a memory. Went pretty smoothly took about 2 hours. Stripped a couple of wires, by accident, but no worries. Used a 5 rib Dayco belt from Advanced Auto Parts. Seems to work really well. Oil filter should be easy to change anyway;) .

I just take my passenger side seat out whenever I go "HONDA HUNTING". :D
I have no idea how to lighten the seats. If you find a way though, please post it.

Consider your seat a saftey item that you don't want breaking during an accident. Do you really want to drill holes in it? I would look elsewhere. For 80 bucks you can get a 10lb battery and lose 30 or so total pounds. You could also try the lawn mower battery during the summer months. Take out the center seat belts. No one ever uses those.

Yeah, I thought about that. I was wanting to buy some Classic seats, but maybe I will just wait and get a good, light racing seat, further on down the road.

Good idea! I hadn't thought of that. I image I could just get the most amps in the smallest size I can find , right? I don't remember seeing anything in SCCA Rules against that.

Hey they actually make really small 12 volt car batteries, I believe like 13 lbs or something. I personally am using an optima red top. Oh by the way I am in Columbia, where are you at?
