My 93 NX2000's AC needs to be recharged and i am trying to figure out whether to get rid of it for performance reasons or keep it and wimp out in the summer.
Its a dialy driver but i am doing a lot of performance upgrades and i was wondering what the popular opinion was...
Thanks, Wolf

Well bloke, 1st off... great choice in cars!!! I'm sporting a 93 NX also. :D Living in FL. is a bugger with no A/C. My compressor went bad about 1 1/2 years ago and I have not replaced it as of yet. A/C is nice to have on those few days when it gets super nasty hot. An underdrive pulley helps a lot. I think I may buy a new compressor and dryer soon as it gets a bit old when it's raining and bleedin hot out. Make sure the shop uses some A/C dye to find any leaks. When I get another car (maybe a 93 classic) then I will be fine with one car without A/C. I hope this gives you some insight.

One more thought. Understand that when the A/C is off the clutch is disengaged thus minimal drag occurs. It's the extra weight that is the worst part of A/C.

I'd say keep the A/C. I had A/C on my sentra and decided to take it out completely after it got damaged in an accident. I regret not fixing it. My A/C was super cold...most of the time I never had it past the second lowest setting. Id much rather sacrifice power steering than A/C.

Thanks a lot guys. I think i'll hold off on removing the ac for now. How does one go about removing the power steering??? I have driven trucks with no power steering before so i am considering this.

I'll probably take out my A/C this week. Should save 40-50lbs, I have heard.

I would say living down south I would keep the A/C. You live in Jersey. I got rid of my A/C and it doesn't bother me at all not having A/C. I got rid of my A/C, emissions, and power steering. If anything it clears up the engine compartment. I feel sorry for those guys with ABS and A/C. How the hell do they change their oil filter. My 2 cents.

Thanks again. A friend of mine (NismoSER) inspired me with a comment he made a few weeks ago. He prefers "all go, no show". I must say that i like the idea of this. Then when i heard an SER guru say "if it doesnt make you go faster, remove it." , i decided that the interior, power steering, ac, and anything else i can do without, will soon be amputated.
maybe i'll change my screen name to nakedNX ??????
