Hey guys, I was driving home yesterday through the tunnels and I noticed when I would step on it there was a loud hissing and the intake was unusually loud. I usually can't hear my intake at all due to my exhaust. Besides the hissing I noticed that the exhaust tone got quieter also.
I was thinking vacuum leak, but when I looked at it I didn't see anything unusual. Then I thought, maybe my intake cam is being activated constantly. Hmmmm... The main thing that makes me think its not a vacuum leak, but could be the cams, is it will happen sometimes but not others. Anyone have any ideas? Whats the best way to test if the cams are activated or not? I dunno what else it could be. Thanks for the help.
not sure of the remedy to this issue as i would need more info but to check if the solonoids r working u can disconnect the wires to them[ dont mix them up] and connect straight power to them individually fro the battery and hear if they r engaging.....after which if they r then reconnect the solonoids and u can make a make shift trouble light and connect it to the solonoids and when they engage the light will come on.....put the light on individually to make sure that if u have a multi switching point that u will see when the intake lights then do the same for the exhaust solonoid......

Awesome Idea!! I have to do that. I know that the solenoids are switching(well atleast the exhaust for sure lol). So I'll probably just skip that step and make the lights. Any suggestions on what kind of lights to use etc.?
just get a really low watt 12dcv bulb and socket for it to fit.....remember that its something temp. just to trouble shoot......there r some ppl that i know that install somereally nice lights as the cames switch but there has to be a relay in the circuit to prevent load on the switch or ecu....

ok, so just for temp I won't need a relay? Ill see if I can through somethin together tonight.
do u have a relay now?, if so then u wont. but if u dont have a relay the nothing over a 5watt or the equivalent of a roof light for this check

I am using 2 MSD-8671s for switching the cams, I don't really know where else I would have a relay. Is that what you meant?
check and see the max amp rating that the msd will allow and see what the max. amp of the solonoid is ..... when this is done then u will see it will be fine to use on the msd..... the 5 watt bulb is pretty low so it should be fine

ok, I havn't gotten around to riggin up a test system yet, but I noticed something else. For one, I believe it is staying in the incorrect state, rather than switching from time to time now. I noticed that when I hit my Exh. activation point(5k) I actually feels like it stops pulling.... Whats going on here?!?!?

Your solonoid might be leaking oil and causing it to turn on and off. Pull the plug and look inside them both. If thats not it double check the device your using to switch your cams after you test to see if they are working.

Hey guys, thanks for all the input and advice. I have been busy moving so I haven't gotten a chance to try anything yet. I was thinking though, would I be able to use 2 LEDs since they don't draw much power at all? Let me know what you think. If so I was gonna put a red on the exhaust and blue on intake ;)

So can i basically just put the led inline with the signal wire to the solenoids?
