uhm, okay. I have a question. I have a big dent on the right side of my B13, way down low. Its on the gray paneling below the door. It looks like somebody just brushed up against the side of a really big curb. I don't know what to do about this cause I'm planning on sanding and removing dents in the car, then priming. Then letting Maaco do the paint.

I'll get pictures if you need them.

Wow.....maaco? you know that shit only holds up for like 2 years at most right?

Even there so called "better paint jobs" suck in my opinion.

As for your dent.....you can do it old school and get a slide hammer and drill holes in the dent, put screws in and pull it out, or invest in a Harbor Frieght verson of a Stinger or Pin welder......they pay for themselves after a short period of time...usally run for 150....Be sure to grind or sand dent to bare metal before welding or using any type of plastic filler....(bondo), if you want ghetto quicko....and as much as i don't like to indorse this, but if its shallow, say no more than 3/8 inch deep, get fiberglass body filler and just fill it.....bondo contracts and expands, where a fiberglass will not....plus its less prone to vibration....again grind out the dent to promote something for the fiberglass to stick to....shape it with 40 grit, then sand in this order.....80...180.....220.....and maybe even 320....never jump up more than 100 grit or you get scratches.....then you cam primer and sand with 320 or 400 wet.....i havent seen your problem for myself..but this is some in general methods to fix it

would you have a general idea of how much it would cost to just pay somebody else to fix all the dents and paint? I'm trying to think out all my options here and see what would be best.

Seems like 40 grit is a little low. And are you saying i sand with 80, then a coat of primer, then sand with 180, coat of primer, etc., etc.?

may i step in i too myself work on car im 17 and i am in a tech school as of right now 40 grit is very rough the lower the grit the rougher the higher the smoother..primer isnt that much since your not using alot of material then again :/ you could used canned primer http://www.eastwoodco.com/shopping/search/searchresultsmain.jsp?affiliate=1&fresh=1&searchType=advanced&RS=1&keyword=primer&cm_mmc=PMD_SE-_-Google-_-Paint-_-car_primer

and as of the cost i would have to see how bad the dent is and no he is not saying that he is saying if you fill with fiberglass sand it with 40 to shape it then maybe 80 add some filler and go 120 etc to about 320 at most then prime it then wet sand with 400 grit then paint it

Just go to Autozone, Advanced, O'reilly's, or any parts store and ask for the haynes manual on painting step and procedures. Some of the stuff is more old school, but you get the jest of it. It has pictures of demonstrations, types and very detailed instructions. If you can understand what you are reading you'll be ok. Pick it up for like $10 if I remember correctly. Thanks KEN.

I have one...

I am new to body repair. I have been doing my own work since I was 16 (30 now) as far as maintainance, stereo, interior, mods (brakes, suspension, etc.) and the like.

I am considering buying a 91 SE-R with some body parts that are suffering from rust. The rockers (below the doors?) and rear quarters (particularly over the wheel arches) are in bad shape. The fenders, hood, trunk, roof, and bumpers are in good shape. One door is perfect, and the other has minor rippling. Lastly, the weld or area around the strike on the driver's side door is beginning to fail.

My only experience with body work was stripping, prepping (to bare metal), priming, and shooting an 86 cherokee that had a bad case of paint oxidation but NO RUST.

Is there any way to repair or replace the parts at a reasonable cost? This car will start out as a winter beater, then possibly be upgraded to full "project" status, if I can get the rust issue resolved.
