: Why won't my fog lights work?
SR20? 09-23-2007, 09:57 PM So I bought this B13 Se-R a couple months ago and its pretty much a pos right now. But I've been working hard and its starting to get a little better, considering how very little I know about cars compared to most people on this forum. Anyways, the fog lights on my b13 aren't working. I took the bulb out of one of the lights and alligator clipped it to the battery and it lit up just fine. But when I turn on the lights and press the fog lights button, they won't come on. I opened up one of the relay boxes under the hood, and where it says "Fogs" theres no relay. Theres not even a place where I could plug a new one in, its like I've got the wrong wiring harness or something. I've checked all the fuses I could find and they all look good. I'm just getting very frustrated and confused and I'd like to know what I need to do exactly. Thanks.
Oh and by the way, my horn doesn't work either. Could be a bad relay though, because I actually have a place for one.
PhorB13 09-23-2007, 10:23 PM I don't know about the horn, but there is a separate fuse holder for the fog lights. It's near the battery, towards the left. You'll see a wire with a fuse holder in it that should follow off to no where important. near the hinge on the driver side of the hood or something. But the fuse holder on that loose wire has the fuse for the fogs. it's a 10-15amp fuse though. Good luck. Lemme know man.
SR20? 09-24-2007, 09:28 PM are you talking about the fuse box inbetween the battery and the chassis? i've already checked that...i think. I'll check it again and make sure.
dxpxe 09-24-2007, 10:15 PM fogs are aftermarket, the relay should be nessled in behind the drive strut tower with the clutch cable goes through the fire wall,
more than likely its the switch off your center console, could be some weatherin i the wire connections that run along your lower part of your front bumper or a mouse at some wiring.
just trace it out, bound to be something simple
SR20? 09-24-2007, 10:37 PM aftermarket? no. i'm pretty dam* sure these are stock fogs that come with the se-r. i was going to check the button on the console to see if its bad but i can't find a good way to get to it without taking a lot of sh*t apart. I'll probably take the radio out tomorrow and start from there. got to finish the oil pan gasket first though...
jonwepa 09-24-2007, 10:44 PM I am having the same problem and I checked the fuse's and the switch on the dash and nothing... I am about to ditch them so you can see more of my fmic :D
ser_soldier 09-24-2007, 11:41 PM sometimes the wire pulls of the back of the switch. Pull the dash apart and do a continuity check from the switch down to the fog light using a mulitimeter, this will begin to narrow down the search for the problem. good luck.

some cars were bought without fogs and the dealer installed the "stock" fogs in an aftermarket manner.
my current 93 se-r has fogs and the relay is in the fuse box. my last car had the fuse on the fire wall were your cruise control would normaly be.

no need to remove the radio........no need to even remove the center consol finisher. just pull the switch out.
SR20? 09-25-2007, 04:56 PM how do you just get the switch out?
grinch77 09-25-2007, 05:08 PM There are two little tabs on the side of it stick a little screwdriver in there and push in to the side of the fog light button.
jen36 09-25-2007, 07:14 PM i just pull mine straight out. i have never broken anything

SR20? 09-25-2007, 11:34 PM mkay. ill give it a shot tomorrow. got the oil pan fixed today. :]
still have a cracked windshield, leaky sunroof, bad cv joints, and a body that needs some insane bondo and painting.
PhorB13 09-25-2007, 11:37 PM no, it's not a fuse BOX that holds the fuse for the fogs. it's a small fuse holder that is on a loose wire. There is a relay under the hood, by the strut tower of the driver's side. Follow the wire from that relay and you'll find the fuse holder that I mean. That one is the fuse for the fogs. it's a 10A fuse.
SR20? 09-25-2007, 11:49 PM the relay to the left of the battery?
i'm telling you i don't have that relay. therefore, there is no wire to follow.
though, i might just be totally confused. =\

have you tested the relay on the firewall yet?
SR20? 09-27-2007, 06:00 PM checked the relay on the firewall today. i heard it clicking and the volt meter said it works.
pulled the switch out also. I think the switch could be bad. there are like 6 prongs on the back of the switch and only two of them would make the volt meter do its thing. i followed the wires from the back of the switch and it led to the relay on the firewall. so i turned on my lights and i was pressing the switch and i got my dad to listen to the relay and he said the relay wasnt clicking. so...any ideas?
jonwepa 09-27-2007, 06:54 PM I am having the same issue. How did you test the relay?
SR20? 09-27-2007, 06:59 PM i'm not exactly sure, my dad helped me with it. but i took the 1 screw out of the firewall and then just pulled the relay out of the plug. then my dad somehow read the side of the relay and found out which prongs were for power. then we got 2 alligator clips and clipped it to the battery. you should hear a click everytime you touch it to the battery. even though i could hear the click my dad wasnt satisifed and got 2 more alligator clips and hooked it up to a volt meter and found that it was working fine.
PJ93 SE-R 09-27-2007, 10:38 PM not all the prongs on your foglight switch will make your voltmeter "do it's thing" some of them are for interior lights and such. it usually isn't as simple as a bad switch. You can find out by figuring which wire is your pos into the switch and pos out, and tie them together. All that dash switch does is close a set of contacts to send power to the lights. Take your voltmeter down by the lights and make sure you don't have power before you get too crazy. btw, just cause a relay clicks, doesn't mean it's good.
classicaddict 09-27-2007, 11:11 PM if your dad can read the relay markings tell him to fugure out what prong is what for the switch power and then send power directly threw the relay plug to the fog lights and see if they work. if the fogs come on the switch is your problem.
