alright i have a GTi-R swap in my '91 sentra. i have a clutch specialties 2200lb clutch and clutch masters 9lb flywheel. i plan on running 15-18 psi but after fortifying the tranny going up even higher in boost. don't plan on putting slicks on too often maybe two events a year. i want to know when should i be worried about breaking an axle. right now i can get the same stage 2 axles that one of the fastest sentra's ran on last year ( i think James Farrer, not sure) but i can get them for $575. so should i spend the money now or can i wait? will getting these axles now provide any performance advantages now also? hopefully these aren't stupid questions. i am still learning as i re-create my sentra. thanks for any help. peace.

After months of research, never heard of the axles being the weak link in the drivetrain unless putting down SERIOUS HP.
The tranny tends to break more often than breaking axles, but if you want piece of mind upgrade both. $575 for stg 2 driveshaft.com axles seems fair (for a few hundred more you can get the stg3 "Unbreakable" axles and hub assy).

Also Did you upgrade your turbo, 15-18+psi seems kind of high on a T28.
My $.02,

GTI-R - i have never heard of axles being a problem on SE-R's. But then, i have never witnessed those really quick SE-R's on the mainland(i live in hawaii). My friend has a GTI-R motor and is pushing well over 400hp and he has never had any proflems with his axles. I think you should worry more about your 3rd gear, trans casing, and clutch. And also, why would you want to run 18psi boost and no slicks. All you would get is 2 lines of molten rubber and a 1/4 mile burnout. One of my other friends is running only 7psi boost on his stock SR20DE motor and the street tires breaks loose like crazy. Dont waste you rmoney one $600 axles.

Projnx2000 - sure, 15-18psi is possible...yummy

Thanks for the info. i really appreciate it. okay if i shouldn't waste the money on the axles just yet then what can i do to my tranny to make it stronger. i have heard of SR20 Developement having built tranny's ready to go. but i thought i would also tell you that i am running a T3/T4 turbo, crower rods, weisco pistons (rods/pistons have all the coatings done) i plan on uping the boost with the slicks at the track into the low 20's. so do you think that the stage 2 axles for only $575 are out of the question for now. peace.

Waste of money. Save your money for all the trannies you'll be breaking.

Weld the outer casing of the tranny around the pass. side seal, Also cryo and shotpeen the gearset-do a search pretty easy to find in past threads.
My bad, didn't know you upgraded your turbo-sounds like a sweet set up. As for getting the axles, Beefed up tranny should probably be 1st, like I said before "Piece of Mind" that you have upgraded axles IMHO would be money well spent.
Good luck, I'll see you around(I'm in VA too.)

Yeah, I just joined drag757-Projsr20deT. I don't know of anyplace locally, but I haven't gotten to that point in my project to be really looking- if you find a place 1st please let me know. I have read about JB-welding the tranny case(this was from another member pushing 400hp, something else to look into).
Thanks,
Chris

instead of buying the axles, i would recommend you first get your tranny welded. That process involves welding a piece of aluminum in the webbing in between the speedo hole and axles hole and machining it flat. The i would recommend you buy a lot of spare clutches and 3rd gears.
