Greetings!!
I just bought a '92 GTi-R fresh off the boat from Japan. Living in Calgary of the Great White North I want to make sure that I take the necessary precautions to winterize my ride. Besides making sure that the coolant is flushed and replaced with the proper grade, and I get a block heater installed, is there anything mechanical or otherwise that I need to do? It came with a set of Yokohama winter tires (can't remember the model), which I have changed out till the snow falls with a set of Toyo T1R's (can you say TRACTION?).
Any ideas, thoughts, or comments are greatly appreciated.

Under coating it comes to mind if the roads are salted. Also a thick coat of wax! If you store it outside a good car cover as well.

Thanks for the feedback!
I was planning on getting it undercoated, glad to have that advise confirmed. I was also told that a block heater wasn't necessary (it can get to -30 C), but that doesn't seem like a good idea to me. :melonscratcher:

Save that Nissan for Spring/Summer.

I got it for $8000 cdn. He had another one for $5000, almost the same mileage (110K kms), but it wasn't in as nice of shape and was stock.

Exactly!
I got the AWD for the winter driving. I plan on getting an undercoating treatment, and it came with brand new winter tires. I have always driven FWD in the snow, so you can guess I'll be having fun playing in an empty parking lot once the snow hits. :D

The whole reason for even ENTERTAINING the idea of owning a GTi-R is for being able to have fun in the winter. Ok, along with the fact it's a pretty rare car (especially around here). But if I wanted JUST a rare car, I wouldn't choose a GTi-R. The GTi-R has everything we love about a car. Boosted SR20, Quick as virgin busting his first, and FUN to drive (and the AWD makes that possible ALL YEAR long). Coat it, wax it, cover it at night, beat it during the day. :biggthump
