: JDM swap in progress Got some Q's
Its311Pete 07-04-2002, 07:35 PM Started removing my old engine out last night. Everything went pretty well. I got the engine to the point that it will only take about a hour before I can pull it. Man I didn't realize it had that many elec. connectors:(
Well my 1st question is where exactly is the Temp. sensor? I have to swap it out with my old US Sensor. I believe I have narrowed it down to 2 diffrent things. ?1 the red connector behind the oil filter. Or 2 the black connector beside the red connector?
Other than that I was just wandering where you reinstall the tranny fluid? I figured maybe the speedo cable hole but that hole is so darn small. And also what fluid is best to put back in. I am thinking of going Synthetic later when I do my half shalfs but for now I would like to go back with stock fluid.
Owe yeah I forgot to order a pilot bushing:rolleyes: , I will order it tomarrow and I was wandering if this is a stocked item or will I be waiting a few days?
Thanks for any replies.
SE-Rican 07-04-2002, 08:16 PM As for the temp sensor I have no I dea.:(
To re-fill the trannny, there is a vent tube on the top of the tranny. I always fill it through there. Get your self a clear hose that will fit snug on the vent tube. And fill it that way. Place the Tranny fluid bottle on the other end and you will be fine. It makes little mess and you will know when that tranny is full. This always works for me. I am a pro at this I am on my 3rd tranny:(
Goodluck with the swap!!:D
(WOOOOOHOO post number 900:D )

My FSM tells me to fill the tranny through the speedo cable hole. It also list a spec for how far from the top of this hole you should fill the tranny. Any fluid that says GL4 is OK. Do not use one that says only GL5 on it. My local nissan dealer uses a cheap (Chevron I think) fluid rated GL3,4+5. Just looked at the bottle several weeks ago.

OK so do I take the cap off where the speedo cable runs into the tranny. It looks like there is a cap under the speedo cable where it goes in the tranny. I hope that is where it goes cause if I have to feed it into the small ass hose that the speedo cable goes in, I will be there all day.

SE-Rican so you filled it up till it came out? I would think they would want you to fill to it is close to the top.
Thanks guys
playatx99 07-04-2002, 11:52 PM guys, there is a fill plug on the front of the trans, near the radiator...... looks identical to the drain plug, with the exception that it accepts a 3/8" socket as opposed to the 1/2" used for the drain
scmser 07-05-2002, 04:53 PM Remove the fill plug on the trans, fill the trans with the recommended fluid until it overflows, let it drain, then reinstall the plug. Be sure not to crank it down too hard.
The coolant temp sensor is the red one on your motor. The JDM is blue. If you start the car up and your in dash gauge reads full hot, yet the motor is not overheating, you didn't swap the right sensor. But don't worry about that.

I was noticing that both of sensors are red. I will just swap the red one from my US engine just to be sure.
sakerocket1 07-06-2002, 12:46 AM It's got a single spade connection on it.
Its311Pete 07-09-2002, 01:01 PM OK heres the deal. There is a block under the throttlebody. It has 3 vacume hoses connected to it along with a wire connector. The block is very small and has a black bracket connecting it to the bottom of the throttle body. The bottom hose somewhere in the swap broke the nipple that you slide the hose up on to. OK how important is this connection?
I might possibly be able to glue it back on but it might not hold.
I wander exactly what effects it would have if I left it plugged with a screw?
The hose leaves the block and goes to one of the metal tubes that goes up the side of the Intake. The metal tube splits after that connection and another hose goes over to my CAI.
Anyone know what would happem if I left it plugged?
I have basically completed my swap and I don't want to zip it up if I am going to have to replace that block, it is kinda tough to get to.
Any ideas?
xDennis 07-09-2002, 03:01 PM Darren, i think i know what your talking about. I just pluge it with a golf tee and it ran fine. There are a few hose under there that need to be in the right spot or else your idle will be very jacked up though. If you have a FSM check it out and see where the hoses belong.
About the tranny. What i was telling you on the phone there is a little plug that you unscreww with your 3/8" rachet. on the very front of the tranny.
Hope that helps!:D
eric96ser 07-09-2002, 03:06 PM I believe that is for the AIV system. I'll double check tonight. If you are keeping the AIV system, just crazy glue the nipple back on.
AaroNX 07-09-2002, 03:40 PM I think the thing he is talking about is something to do with EGR. I saw something about it in my FSM one time. I thought you were doing a JDM motor. IF so they shouldn't have this or at least mine didn't.

I will try to glue it back on but it broke to the point where I don't know if I can get it to hold. I hope it can at least run fairly well to I get a permanant fix for it.

YEs I am doing a JDM but I am keeping all the emmissions stuff.
I just swapped intakes.
Thanks for any help guys.
Darren
AaroNX 07-09-2002, 08:19 PM Sorry to ask but why are you keeping the EGR and stuff?
The water temp sensor is near the oil filter and it is a single spade connector, black I believe. The sensor itself is remove with a 12mm long socket. It is very small and the socket completely covers it.
On the 2 JDM swaps I've done, we ditched the EGR and AIV, but kept that thingy. I didn't know what it did so we put it on the new motor. I'd like to know what that thing does too. If I weren't so lazy I might just go out in my garage and look in my FSM :)

The coolant temp sensor for the ECU is the two wire sensor by the oil filter .. The one wire sensor is the coolant temp sensor for the guage ... Both will have to be swaped for the engine swap !!!!
