: CONGRATS TO ME! S13 SR20DET (redtop)
91HatchSocal 09-29-2007, 01:37 AM Congrats to me.. finnally got my hands on a RWD SR20det :D
So this is the deal yal.. I came up on this sr20det redtop block with tranny and short shifter for $600 WAS THAT A GOOD PRICE ? how much would that total up to ?
Now before you make up your minds debating wether it was a good deal or not. let me just say. the engine came with no HARNESS, TURBO, EXAUST MANIFOLD. just engine head. pistons internals bla bla bla. But the way i see it.. il need a exaust manifold that sits ontop.. and upgrade the turbo to a T3/T4 anywho.. so that wasn't necessary.
This is where my dilema kicks in.. I don't know what il be missing for a STOCK reliable running engine. its not HOW to do the swap, the isue, i know how and i searched it for those smart asses about to say SEARcH SEARCH... i would like to know the PARTS im missing and where or what car i can get them off of. Il get some pictures up asap. the engine's in my garage. but camera has dead battery .. WA WA WAAAA  il try to be as detail oriented on the pics so u guys can give me a good list of parts il need. keeping in mind i want a STOCK reliable daily driver sr20det powered car.
THANKS GUYS ahead of time.
McCoy 09-29-2007, 01:58 AM Well, you could start by posting in the right section ;). I was nice and moved your post from the technical library to the 240 section.
Sounds like your going to need alot of things. I might be able to help you. I have a complete redtop (spare motor) in the garage and have been thinking about selling off all the misc parts since I don't really need them.
I have an uncut SR harness, ECU, CAS, ignitor, coil plugs and sub harness, and a few other items that should help you get part of the way to getting the car running. You'll still need to find your manifold, turbo, water and oil lines, and injectors... but it's a start.
PM if you interested in what I have, I'll give you a reasonable offer on the parts as a package.
91HatchSocal 09-29-2007, 12:09 PM sweet yeah it seems it has the injectors in them and a few other things however the plugs for the injectors /harness are not there. I was told i could use the 89 S13 computer and harness.... and make a simple mod and have it running right. TRUE OR FALSE?
but yeh after i post the pics u can take a look and let me know what parts u got that i would need and give me a good price :D
P.s
Thanks for transfering my post.
91HatchSocal 10-11-2007, 11:40 PM PICS JUST UP! finnaly got some pics of the engine. hope they help with my issue. like i said.. a GOOD ACURATE LIST OF THE STOCK SR PARTS THAT IL NEED WOUL DBE NICE FOR A STOCK RUNNING DET. thanks

Yellow4g63 10-12-2007, 05:23 AM Better get a stand alone like a Micro tech and wire it up. You still need the CAS and ignitor chip and you will be set. Or you could spend just as much hunting down a SR harness and getting into the car and have no way to tune.
91HatchSocal 10-12-2007, 10:29 PM Hmmmm interesting.. so a what is the unit called. i searched for it but i found other things i dont think u specified :P . like brand and name of part stand alone fuel management system? or.....
how MUCH are then around ?
is it easyer to do the swap with that instead of the original harness. but KEEP IN MIND.. this will be a DD car.. not a full out race car. i want information thal get my 240 with the SR in it running good and the way it should STOCK with no problems, and wasting as little $ on the swap as possible. and YES me and my cousin will be doing the swap on the car got the engine hoist and the tools etc etc. :P hope all goes well this is our first RWD SR swap. FWD SE-Rs are CAKE now.. :P so i was the first of the family with the RWD SR.. so im the newby now out of 5 cousins with 91-93 SE-R's :P
so HELP :P
Yellow4g63 10-13-2007, 03:27 AM It's called MicroTech. I forget how much they go for, you can prob pick it up for 1100 AUD or 1k street. Then u just wire it up since you don't have the orignal harness.
91HatchSocal 10-13-2007, 02:02 PM sounds difficult to do. do all that wiring :S ... harness and ecu sounds simpler however i would probably have to JIM WOLF it to get it running right and thats around $500 i. I dont really understand how the stand alone would work. is it like u run your harness but you hook that up TO the harness and you can control everything ? air/flow boost things like that ? or could u give me an explanation on how it would work or benefit the car.
:P Sorry im just used to running N/A power :P and i was told.. ." ONCE U GO BOOST U NEVER GO BACK" so i wanna give it a go. but NOT FUCK UP along the way u know so id like to learn form the peeps that have done turbos already and have had positive experiences and bad ones and can give the good advice.
THANKS for helping out yellow im listening
Rittmeister 10-13-2007, 02:17 PM Um, you really need to do some searching. I know you don't want to hear it but there it is. Folks here aren't going to want to provide info you could easily find in less than an hour.
www.heavythrottle.com
www.zilvia.net
www.freshalloy.com
Check the tech section here, for that matter. Good luck.
NismoSR20 10-13-2007, 02:52 PM What is the VE going into? Nice 240 btw.
91HatchSocal 10-13-2007, 02:55 PM Thanks bro :D ... hmm.. wel i havent decided yet... the VE might go into a Se-r most likely.. then probablty stroke it... altough... a possible 240sx Sr20VET is a posibility.
sr20boostn20 10-16-2007, 09:58 AM . is it like u run your harness but you hook that up TO the harness and you can control everything ? air/flow boost things like that ?
Sorry im just used to running N/A power
learn form the peeps that have done turbos already and have had positive experiences and bad ones and can give the good advice.
im sorry but someone please ban this dude till he goes and looks up any thing,
i know every one was new once.
but dude, SEARCH, not just here, everywhere. google, zilvia.net, nico, club240. you can never search enough. everything has been covered more than once,
ca18 bluebird 10-17-2007, 01:57 AM well if you are gonna do a 240 vet now is the time to do it!
reasons:
1. you have no wirring harness and a microtec with botch coils would be great with vet. if you set up a standard wirring harness and decide vet later, it will need to be changed later due to coilpacks not fitting in vc. might as well go custom vet harness and stand alone ecu from the word go!
2. both engines are out the car, so head swap would be easiest now
3. you have no cas for the det, so just buy the 20v cas for you vet swap now and dont double buy
but you will need custom intake manifold and 20v vvl solinoids or reroute the ones you have
Yellow4g63 10-17-2007, 02:10 AM I would do a VET it seems like it would be alot of fun. Hell my N/A VE is way fun and it's fwd. Turbo + RWD+ VVL = MUCH FUN.
jrbump 10-17-2007, 09:41 AM What do you want to do? Drive your car or work on a VET swap for the next year?
Anyway, $600 will turn out to be just an average price at best after you buy everything else.
Your best bet would be to work out a package deal with Monty.
91HatchSocal 10-17-2007, 04:38 PM yeah he gave me a sweet deal wich i might have to take after i get this upcoming paycheck :Pif not il sell the engine and buy the whole front clip for 2k i want something i can drive ANYTIME kind of a thing.
Thanks :D
