i did some testing today and heres what i found

- when i keep the vac/boost gauge at 0 i can redline it, i dump into the next gear, aslong as i roll into it, it still can be redlined, but the SECOND get into boost and hit 5 psi, it coughs and puffs black smoke and goes into a rich condition

- My intake system is 1000% free of leaks,

- My Vacuum system is 1000% free of leaks

- when i disconnect the wastegate (tie it open) the car runs fine, redlines fine and drives just like it should NA, no torque, but it still runs

- When there is no load on the engine, i can rev it and it will generate boost, it will boost up to 5 psi, the boost gauge will bounce back and forth to 0psi and it will shoot black smoke out the exhaust, rpms break up and bounce all over the place

Specs are as follows.

Redtop SR
Ecu has a daughter board, but i am not runnign it because ive gone back to stock.
Starion FMIC
Recirc'd bov
KA24E mafs
Z32 fuel filter
3 inch exhaust
stock KA fuel pump (pressure is within spec) (although ***** put a z32 in to make sure its not the problem)

It seems to have cold start problems aswell, it will make a wirrrr sound then start, after 3 or for times then it starts fine.

Next for the vids
in this one you can see the boost gauge cutting in and out at 5 psi, it backfires and shakes the whole car.

in this one you can see me holding the vac/boost gauge at 0psi, then running up to where the wastegate cracks, then shifting and having it break up on me again

The following has been replaced.

Mafs x 2
all charge piping x2
BOV
CTS
TPS

All sensors check out as per the FSM's voltages. I cannot check codes on my ECU, *** my potentiometer is busted.

Also i know there is a jumper on the back of the ecu, but i cant switch the jumper, *** when i do, it barley runs atall

what the hell is going on with my car, i dont think ive had this many problems with any vehicle ive ever driven, im so close to buying a KA24E and putting it back.

the car was acting like mine did last year... the jerking and backfiring like crazy...

check and make sure the ecu is conected good as in the blue harness plug is not crooked in anyway and the bolt is tight.. it fixed my problems!! if not start checkin grounds... G/L and let us know how it does

get an obd reader it should read the codes (i think it works on obd 1 cars) or go to advance and have them read it

I'm about 90% sure it's the spark plugs.

Replace them with NGK BKR7E's gapped to 0.030 - 0.032" and it should run fine.

gaurnteed its not, running BRAND NEW, NGK BKR6E's gapped to 0.030...nothing..

might i also note that im running only like 8-11 InHg at idle...

Post pictures of your setup so we can see what we are working with.

Did the car run fine in boost at all before?

Have you tried running a stock ECU?

it hasnt ran fine for me since i got it, however it was running fine before with a SAFC, wideband/the daughterboard/ 550cc's/GT2871R/ ect i havent tried running a stock ecu only *** i cant get my hands on one. however i will trade my daughterboard'd one for a stock ECU

Is it a J4 Blacktop?

If not an E5 or 62 ECU should not be hard to find.

its a 62.

Anyway... i did some testing all day today and checked my fuel pressure, turned out to be way low (29 psi, stock KA pump)

i went to the yard, sick of not haveing my power band, and i stole a pump out of a V6 Nissan pathfinder. i modified the ka's housing, the pathy's sock to fit the stock tank. took a pressure test and i had between 45- 50 psi. woot.

then i took it for a rip, its running rich (obv) and it still kinda bogs out, but sounds more like its ignition now (kinda machine gun like, but barley noticeable.) i was also able to hit 7 psi and hold it. woot.

small victory, considering i am still running around 11-13 InHg at idle so ive still got a leak somewheres.

Spray carb cleaner around the intake manifold gasket at the head.

Did you check timing to make sure it's at 15* BTDC as it should be?

What you're describing sounds like your timing's too retarded...

i agree that you should spray carb cleaner over all piping and intake manifold , just to make sure go over the injectors to make sure your not sucking air as well . i had an aweful problem similar to this that drove me nuts . i used an osciliscope to check and i found one of the cylinders was missing . when i changed the plugs same issue . i found a hairline crack on one of the coil packs that was causing the spark to jump only under 1/2 load or more . just a thought , hope it helps .

if you are looking for a stock ecu , and possably another set of coil packs , try venus-auto.com . they might be able to send you the parts needed .

good luck
